The vet I used was 100 miles away from my home, so I spent nearly 4.5 hours total time at his office before returning home. We are STILL doing weekly tapings but I feel that we are coming to an end shortly. We've been doing it for about 5 months I believe. I expect we will still be doing it at Christmas time but hopefully not too long after that. The general rule of thumb is about 6 or 7 days of them wrapped, then take them off and evaluate how they are standing. If they aren't standing, immediately re-wrap them and give it another week. Towards the end we have been waiting as long as 3 weeks before removing the wraps because he's getting so close, and we've been taking very good care of the wraps themselves. I hope this answers all of your questions and feel free to ask me any more, whenever you want. I know what it's like to be full of questions and wondering regarding the ear crop issue so if I can be of any assistance, just let me know!
Hi Vashau. I just read your message on youtube as well.
Marduk was borderline 13 weeks when i finally got him cropped. Of course I wanted it earlier than that but my schedule wouldn't allow it. 9-10 weeks is a prime time to get them cropped. I had another Boxer that was cropped at 12 weeks and I have found that the longer you wait, the longer you will be posting them afterwards. My next Boxer will be getting done at 9 weeks for sure. Yes I did bring in pictures of the crop style I was going for, but the Vet I used came highly recommended by my areas top breeder/handlers and was already well versed with doing the "show crop" so I didn't even show him the pictures. I am unsure of the length of the crop itself, but I know that it is a full show crop which basically means it is as long as it can possibly be. It's a very elegant, long, tapered crop, but of course the longer the crop, the longer the time spent training it to stand properly.
First off Marduk is very handsome and those ears look perfect. My pup will be home in 12 days. I am planning to have him cropped and would like to ask you some specific questions if u don't mind.
How old was Marduk when u got him cropped. We are shooting for 10 weeks.
Did you take pictures in to the vet to show him what type of crop you want?
What is the length of his crop?
Did he stay overnight after the procedure? My vet said he can go home that day. How long did it take for him to return to his normal self? How long did it take for them to stand? Thanks in advance and please excuse the many questions just want to make an informed decision.
I was really curious because bentley was just at the vet last night for his first set of shots and an overall checkup he weighed in at 6 lbs and he is 7 weeks. Thanks for the info and no prob on the compliment I'm willing to bet he is gonna be huge.
Marduk was 8 weeks old in that picture. He was 13" at the withers. As far as his weight goes, I do not know how much we weighed in that picture. However, last Friday, he had his second set of vaccinations and weighed in at 15 lbs at the vets office. Today he makes 10 weeks old. Thanks so much for the compliment on my pup. He sure is a handful!
