Default So I had a thought and need some help/ideas...

I have a new work schedule starting next week which gives me every monday and friday off (woo hoo) so I had an idea to start doing something that I think I would enjoy with my spare time. I came up with the idea of making homemade doggie treats. I have a friend who owns her own grooming salon and she agreed to sell them for me if I decided I wanted to go that way with it.
I know there are a few members on here who make their own treats ( grammie and samsonsmom) and was looking for some ideas and some direction on this.
I'm unsure of where to start or what kinds of things I can throw together that will be healthy but at the same time appealing.

Things I have gathered and have available to use (at the moment)are:
whole wheat flour, oats, flaxseed, pure pumpkin, peanut butter, unsweetened applesauce, bananas, low sodium chicken broth, meat & sweet potato baby food.

I've been looking at recipes on the web but I'd like to know they are "tried and true" recipes with good reviews from the dogs! *

Well. . .i aint no good at baking but Zulu has tried and tested and give 4 paws up to both Grammie and Samsonsmom's treats.
Grammie PB bones were fab and Zulu loved Willows garlic and cheese balls and the pb cookies she made him!!

Goodluck and hope it all goes well.

PS i know that Lori (mylittledears) had a fab frosting receipie that she did for Donner and Blitzens bday cakes, and she is also a great baker!!

I found a lot of recipes for dog treats when doing an internet search. There were some that used ingredients I wouldn't give my dogs but also plenty of very healthy ones available too.

Sarah, here is a great link for supplies like cookie cutters and bags and such....Some of my tried and true recipes are the garlic cheese balls and the Peamutt butter cookies.I'll PM you those recipes..I had considered doing something like that, but to be honest, I just don't have time, but had started to work on some base pricing, which I can share with you

Willow's *garlic and cheese balls were a HUGE hit with our 2!!! The frosting I made is simple : Low or no fat cream cheese mixed at room temp with honey until you get a frosting consistency. It's pretty rich and not something I'd feed for a regular treat but for something *special. For next years b-days I'm going to add peanut butter. Good luck with your new idea

Thanks Willow and Lori. This is something I have wanted to do for a little while now but never had the time. So now that I finally have the time I want to be able to do something that I enjoy. Once I get going and see if it is something that is catching on than I am going to start donating part of the profit to our local Humane society.

Willow...any information or tips you can share with me I would really appreciate!

If anyone else is into making treats and would like to send some ideas/suggestions my way I would be greatful!

Here is a little addition to the others comments...I have big dogs and little dogs, so make some small (toy breed) sized treats as well! It is really hard to find bite sized treats for toy dogs.

www.foxypups.com is where I get some of my yorkies treats.

also, PM me as I have a LOT of websites bookmarked for dog foods/treats!
