Default New food

Hello. Our guy is 11 months old and eats Iams right now. We would like to change his food to adult food and switch the brand. Any suggestions? He's a very gassy guy which is why we want to switch the Iams. Thanks!

It really all depends on how much you want to spend. I would check the food topics and see the ratings, if your looking to feed kibble. We went with a 6* Blue Wilderness Salmon. It's about $55 for 30lbs, but they do very well on it and raw just isn't a good option for us right now. Do go grain free if at all possible.

At the end of the day though, boxers are fart machines. I don't know much food that will help that too much. Just research, research, research and make the best choice you can for your pup.

Iams? Ughh! It's loaded with crappy ingredients (sorry), glad you are switching

There isn't one food that works with all, most boxers have less gas on a grain free kibble. And some do better on high protein, some lower protein. I always avoid what I call the "worst of the worst" - corn, wheat, by-products (of any sort), animal digest and chicken fat if listed in the first 4 ingredients (further down the list is okay)

We had our Maggie on Iam's for a while (she came to us from the animal shelter on Old Roy) & we switched to Iam's figuring it was better for her. Well when our vet clinic got a new vet she suggested a few other foods that were way better. One of them being Blue Buffalo & that is what we went with and continued to feed. Since Maggie, our other 2 girls have been on Blue Buffalo from the time we brought them home. Our cat is even fed Blue Buffalo.

I have tried numerous varieties and find blue buffalo wilderness is the best. My Dogs go nuts over it. I tried Origen but it gave my dogs terrible gas.

Honestly, I wouldn't say blue buffalo "wilderness" is the best. It's whatever works BEST with your dog. Some dogs can't tolerate high protein- over 30%. And higher protein, although very good- makes the kidneys work harder and can cause UTI issues. I do think the wilderness is excellent food, but the best? I would have to raise that RAW is best from all the reading that I've done - and I don't even feed it we feed blue buffalo freedom- adult - it's 24% protein and 14% fat and is the ONLY food that works so far with us. I've tried them all - all types of BB- grain and no grain, BB wilderness, Acana, and possibly nutro - we've went thru at least 6 or 7 diff foods finding the perfect one. The key is to 1. Find a high quality grain FREE food and 2 one that will work with your dog- causing less eye goobers, less gas, less shedding and an over all happier dog. What u like may not be what ur dog tolerates the best so it takes some time. Our 11 mo old can't tolerate grains at ALL and he can't tolerate high protein. He may even be developing a chicken allergy / that remains to be seen. So research research research, read, ask nutritionists- not the reps in petsmart that are paid to sell a certain food. Find one that fits u and try it hopefully it fits your dog just as well. Boxers are extremely hard to find a food for

BB gave my girls gas but taste of the wild didn't it depends on the dog but since we switched them to Raw the toots are much less and not as stinky either also fewer anal gland issues (I used to say no anal gland issues but Z "got " me the other morning) also healthier, happier, and softer coats and less shedding on raw

Raw isn't an option for us but I have read it is the best. Thanks for all the advice. I have been doing some research and appreciate the links of top rated foods. I believe it will be a trail and error type before we find what works best for Presley. Click image for larger version

BB works for me, but it's really what works for your guy. You could hit it right on the first try or it may take some trial & error...good luck !
