Help!

I've been rescued by an 8 month old boxer :) We took him to a vet checkup 4 days after he came to live with us. I fed him purina puppy chow for the first week or so then someone told me it wasn't a good quality food so I switched to Beneful. He had vaccinations at the vet visit and tested negative for heart worms. He was treated preventively for heart worms and fleas and ticks. The last week or so I have noticed hair loss on his neck, chest down all 4 legs and a few spots on his left side... I'm thinking its mange and have a vet visit scheduled for tomo to check. I did talk to a vet tech friend who told me it could possibly be a corn allergy and both foods I've bought him have corn as the first ingredient. What are your thoughts? I've included a couple pics. I've also been mixing apple cider vinegar in his food and topically applying it to the chest area and it has improved a little...Attachment 43858Attachment 43866

I would get him off beniful and on a grain free food and see if that starts fixing beniful is nasty crap that I would not even wish upon sewer rats to eat....

It is just a bunch of crap ground up and thrown in a bag blue buffalo is a good grain free food also taste of the wild is good or wellness core

That's not your fault people buy what they see on TV that is telling them its great food when in actuality its junk I would get a good grain free kibble and slowly switch him over and see if it helps

I have Mia on blue buffalo wilderness. It's grain free corn free wheat free. She loves it.

PS you will not find grain free food at Walmart or any grocery store go to a feed store tractor supply or a pet store

Looks like mange to me. Get a skin scraping done and get him off that Beneful crapolla. Try looking for a grain free, if you have a Costco membership they have a brand called Natures Domain that is reasonably priced. Also you could try TSC's brand 4health.

Serena is on Blue Buffalo Freedom grain free for puppies. She loves it. Incidentally, Serena had localized mange. Hers was limited to a few small bald spots on her head. Hopefully he doesn't have mange but even if it is, it can be treated so don't worry.

Thank you for rescuing :)

Beneful is probably one of the worst foods :puke:

Here are a couple sites to help you rate dog food:

A lot of boxers do better without grains (corn, wheat, rice)
You want to read the labels and avoid the "worst of the worst" as I say.
Corn, wheat, "by-products", animal digest(yuck) - google that- it will disgust you!

:)

I just switched my Pooky to 4Health Lamb and Rice Adult from TS. It's only a little more than the Purina I had her on. The difference in her stools is night and day. (Gross I know but easy way to monitor what's going on inside) She just seems a little more vibrant. Same personality, just more alert.
