2 Hours at a time

Tugboat is our new addition. He is Brindle with some white on his nose down to his belly. We got him on August 24th. Here is my question. We are crate training him and someone is home most of the day. He is really only in the crate at night. He is waking up at night about every 2 - 2.5 hours to go pee, mind you during the day he will go longer without. I take him out before bed, and he goes. Is this normal or not? Everything I read says he should be able to hold it 4 hours. Am I doing something wrong?

We started clicker training last night. Working on conditioning. Anyone else had any success with Clicker training? Advise?

I read the thread about the bell. I am going to try that. Incorporate it into clicker training.

Am working on his leash as well. He hates it but I am sure in a few days he will come to like it.

On a side note: We have a house rabbit and Tugboat like to play with her, although she wants nothing to do with him.

Thanks for any advise in advance.

Just want to say welcome and how cute little Tugboat is.  I believe there is a tread on clicker training with some links for more information.  I am sure that someone with experience will be helping you out soon; this is a great forum with a lot of knowledgable people.
Hi Tugboat and welcome.  He is soooooooooo cute and adorable.  How old is he.  I know I didn't answer your questions, but I leave that to the experts here.
I kno when we crate trained Jessie she went to the bathroom in the crate everynight for a few week I think. Then she stopped because she new she didnt like sleeping in it. We didnt get up or anything to let her out. After a few weeks she new to hold it in until the morning. But I dont believe you are doing anything wrong. After 9 we wouldnt let her drink water, but now we do cuz she knows how to handle herself... By the way tugboat in adorable and welcome... I hope I was some what of an help.
first of all i want to welcome you and tugboat!! He is adorable. As for the waking every 2-2 1/2 hours to pee.....My Chance still does that and he is 13 weeks old. My little Layla will sleep all night but Chance still wakes up. I say i would rather them wake me up then go in their cage. I am sure he is fine....if not then i guess i should worry   lol
Hi
Oh I love your little guys name- Tugboat! How gorgeous!
I'm sure as he gets older he will learn to hold it in for longer and longer periods of time. At the end of the day he's still only a baby so I wouldn't worry about it too much, just persist with him!

oh he is just the cutest little thing!! how old is he? the 4 hour rule is a maximum you should really leave alone before taking out. honestly when i had my chole we would take her out every 1.5-2 hours just to make sure there were no accidents. My youngest girl Reese is 7 months and and my oldest is 2 yrs. Reese only stopped going out every 2.5 hours about 2 months ago. savannah is fine with going only twice a day-we take her out more often but she just doesnt go. she runs and plays-and has no accidents in the house. i think the best thing to do is just give him some time, it gets better the older they get.  Also i would make sure he has no water/food past 8-830 at the latest. that could be contributing to how often he is going at night. please keep us posted!
Thanks everyone for your information. Tuboat is 8 weeks old for those of you who asked. Today is our first vet visit.

Last night I took his water and food away at 8, and we went to bed at 10. He got up at 12 and then 1:30 and the 6. YEAH. I got a little sleep last night.

Thanks for all your help. I will look for the clicker thead.
