Roughly about 4 weeks ago.. My dog became ill. We didn't notice all the signs but when we did it was to late. My dog had ingested a fungus that was in his dog food and ate it for roughly 3 to 4 weeks before he passed. When we noticed he was sick the whites of his eyes had yellowed and we rushed him to the vet. The Vet was very good and ran many testsand began treating for a poisin. 24 hrs later he passed due to liver failure....Aflatoxin is found mainly on grain and nut products and many dog foods had recalled for this before. I just want everyone to be aware that this out there and look it up read about all the smyptoms ...
The only food he was eating was Pedigree Dry food 20 lb. We are waiting on the lab work. The food was sent to Cornell for testing . Again the problem is it takes 3 to 4 weeks of eating this to get sick. At this point we had started another bag.
Very sorry to hear. This would be big news if Pedigree tests positive for it. Everything I've read has just said it was Diamond brands that were produced in one plant (Gaston, SC). As you noted, aflatoxin can be found on many improperly stored grains and nuts, it is generally harmless to humans unless in large doses. Is it possible your dog ate any human foods that could have possibly been tainted? Please keep us posted.
