So, we have these neighbors to the east of us that are just totally hopeless... seriously.  They have two dogs that they never let inside (a basset hound and a beagle), they never walk them and I never see them play with them.  They are totally neglected.  Oh, and they bark ALL THE TIME.  It was annoying before, but now that we have Porter, it's even MORE annoying.  We'll go out to play with his ball, or do his business, and they will just bark their a$$es off.  I know, dogs bark.  I get it.  But these dogs are just unruley!

Tonight, we were out playing with the tennis ball and Porter, mind you, NEVER barks back (I am so proud of him).  They were just barking like mad and Porter was just ignoring them.  Well, it got so bad, a couple other neighbors were yelling at the dog to shut up (insert 4-letter words where you see fit).  Finally one of them came over and blamed Porter.  I showed him that Porter was just totally oblivious to their barks and he apologized.  Then, one of our other neighbors blamed Porter for "taunting" the other dogs.  Which is NOT true.  Porter SHOULD be able to play in his own yard, esp since he's not even barking back.  In fact, he stays away from that side of the fence.   :x

So, as I said before, these neighbors are just hopeless... they let their kids run rampant.  We've witnessed their kids throwing dog poo over the fence (before we got Porter).  They take mail out of our mailbox.  They go in our backyard when we're not there and play in our sprinklers (we have a gate/fence).  I mean, i wouldn't really mind that if they asked.  I just don't think saying anything about these dogs will do any good.  Oh, and today I witnessed the mom leave her 7 year old and 2 year old home alone... awesome.

What would you do??   :?:

call child protective services, and local animal control, if the neighbors are the way you say then they probably won't listen so I'd get the authorities involved since it's not the kid's or the animals' fault that they live with moronic adults.

me being me.. i would call animal control and dcfs....i don't know if you have tried talking to them or not..it seems like such a severe situation that i would be inclined to go straight to the proper authorities.i would think talking to them would be a waste of time and if they got in trouble they would blame you..and seeing as how you live next door to them..maybe trying to reason with them is not a good idea.

isn't the law that kids under 12 are not allowed to be left home alone with no adult supervision?

Next time the dogs are barking and the kids are home alone call animal control. Most towns have unruly or nuisance ordinances regarding dogs.  Call and hold the phone up outside so they can hear it.  When they come to cite your neighbor and only a 7 and 2 year old are home they're gonna have a whole lot of explaining to do.

If there that bad, they prob have a go at you for daring to mention it to them in the first place. :x

Call the child protection services caus if something happens to those skin kids the parents will be in deep trouble. :x

As for the dogs, well they are of the hound bred and i bet they bark really really loud, its what they are breed to do to alert there owners of things!! 8O  8O
They are just bored and under stimulated, and prob the only fun time they get is when your dog is in the garden  , but i get your fustration. Porter IS allowed to play in his yard, and you should have to feel like you have to keep him in doors so the neighbours dont get p*ssed off. :x

Yeah, call the authorities and get a lock on your gate so they can't come in.
Definitely the lock...The parents obviously have no more thought for their kids or their dogs...It's a delicate situation as it's possible the neighbors will figure out it was you that reported them, BUT if their kids are allowed in your backyard, either by invitation or not and something happens, guess who will be held liable, YOU!!! i'd call the authorities for sure, this isn't a good situation
