Hi guys,
I am just new on this forum so i would like to say hi to everyone bofore i start!!!!
Well i have had my boxer for about 2 years now and she is wonderful. We have taken her to dog obedience training and she has always loved to play and interact with other dogs. However, about 9 months we had to get her cruisher ligiment (sorry about the spelling) done in her her knee, and ever since  she has recovered from the operation she has wanted to fight with every dog she see's. She is more tolorent of smaller dogs but she has not got any patience with them anymore. Has anyone else heard of this happening? The only dog she will interact with now is my sisters minature snauzer and that is because they see each other on a regular basis. Has anyone got any suggestions as to why you think she would do this?   :signhelp:

Welcome to the forum...I have never experienced that problem with my dogs, but then again, I've(luckily) never had any serious injuries or surgeries. Have you asked your vet if there might be anything still wrong? Also does this happen just in your house or anywhere you go? How old is she also???

Oh yes,, what's your baby's name by the way? :)

Our oldest one injured his leg and was grouchy around other dogs for quite a while.  But once he started feeling well and trusted his ability to move around again, he went back to the same loving puppy he always was.  It did take time, even though to us, he looked 100%.  I think they know they are not 100% and maybe sense danger in dogs that are similar in size.  Give him some more time to heal and test his abilities and maybe he will come back around again to the way he was.

A few years ago i rescued a boxer pup (well she was closer to a year old) that had been hit by a car. I was working for a 24 hour emergency vet at the time and was able to sit in while she had her surgery and took her home the next day for her long road to recovery. She had the ball removed from her hip joint because it was shattered. She was acting the same way as you describe that your dog is. my rescue was really sweet before surgery but was not so nice after surgery. I approached my vet about it and we put her on a higher dose of pain meds to start with. When i finally started to wean her off of them she started getting mean again. She was in a lof of pain the first few months after the surgery, after about 4-5 months she started to settle down. She would get a little snippy if you got too close to the leg that was hit or if another dog got to close to it, but she eventually lost that mean streak. Now this is just my own personal experience, but it sounds like you girl may be in some pain from the surgery. How long has it been since the operation? once again i am not an expert here, but if it has been longer than 5-6 months i would check in with your vet and let them know whats going on. Whats her name by the way??

My girls name is kona. She is about 2 half years old now. By the way thanks for all your reply's guys. its nice to talk to other people with the same breed of dog!
She got her operation done about april-may this year. She is not agressive towards us or any other people what so ever as i said it is only other dogs!!! We dont have any other dogs in our home very much so it is mainly out of the house. We have taken her back to the vets recently and she is now on sashes blend and we have got pain killers for when she has bad days!!! Unfortunatly though the vets advised us that the only thing we can do is manage her pain and never cure it. We do regular physio on her knee by stretching it and hot packs and stuff but we might just have to be patient i suppose and wait till she is ready to socialise with other dogs again in her own time.

It sounds like Kona is just reacting to the other animals strictly because they are unaware what happened and she is already in pain. She knows that you and your family know because you have been there by her side. Give her some time, let her heal-she should end up being the well mannered girl you taught her to be. Keep us posted on Kona-we would love to see her so if you have some pics post them  :D
