I have seen mine stand like that when they are on alert...standing at "attention" so to speak...but, I am sure that breeders work with them to perfect it and make it a more common stance...that's my guess! 
That's what I figured. I've seen Molly stand like that when she's standing at the glass door watching a squirrel or something. I just didn't know if they were supposed to stand like that all the time.
