On tuesday (4/8) he had x-rays and the bone has callused over enough where they stated a splint would not help anymore.  The bone is not solid yet you could still see an opening between the two parts of the bone.  He has been moving around alittle and then laying down alot.  but when he does move its just to outside or to eat or to get into bed.  and he will have a permanent limp due to the two parts not aligning perfectly as well as them stating that he will have a limp if we decided to use splints instead of surgery where a surgery would have him with no limp.

but he is doing much better...  And he gained 5lbs in one week since the last vet visit he is now 43.4lbs

The only down side of the splints right now is that his hair is falling out on that leg and he has some more cuts from the splints, as well as nails that were completely curled under, and his pads just fell off....

we gave him a nice bath and put some ointment on his cuts and the bottom of his pads..  I then started to cut his nais, luckily the quick didnt grow too much, so just cut a big chunck off each toe.  the pads are starting to get dried out and hard again so I hope its not too much pain for him.

good news that the splint is off but sorry to hear that the bone won't heal totally together.  Bet he feels so much better with it off.

Glad to hear that he got the splint off. Hopefully he'll make a good recovery from here.
Try putting some vaseline on the pads of his foot and then covering it with a sock to let it soak in...might help with the dryness.

I'm so happy that he got his splint off..I have seen that nail curl before on a family dog..it just looked so painfull..he's probably feeling light..and lighthearted right now..Sorry to hear the bone didn't heal right...I hope he does ok..like Nano said..keep him calm ( GOOD LUCK!! ) but seriously..I would bet that bone is still a bit fragile..Ashley and I have our thoughts heading your way!
