Baths

I've read that Boxers shouldn't be bathed "too often," but am unsure what constitutes "too often."  The breeder we bought Atticus from bathed him the night before we picked him up, but I just read in a book on Boxers that a puppy shouldn't be bathed until it's a year old!  Is this accurate?!?!?!?  (Seems pretty extreme!)

We have been bathing our girls weekly lately. They get so dirty from all the rain we have had here in texas recently. since it stopped pouring here we have slacked off. As for the year thing that doesnt sound right. We typically would bath once a month-unless they got into something or unless were stinky for some reason.
We have always bathed Chloe once a week.  A puppy gets in to a whole mess of stinky stuff - I would bathe them at least when they start to stink - which is anywhere from every week to every month.  If they start getting dry skin then don't bathe as often or use an oatmeal shampoo.

Oh - while on the subject - make sure the shampoo is soap-free otherwise it will wash off the monthly flea treatments.
I gave Lola her first bath at about 2 or 3 months old.  I was told once a month in the summer and once every two months in the winter.  I try to give Lola a bath once a month.  She likes to play in dirt...she sometimes gets stinky!  You can also wipe them down with baby wipes.
Lilly gets bathed weekly.  Just remember to use a good conditioner to keep the coat supple and to keep the skin from drying out...

Hope this helps...

I bathe Fiona once a week also.  I use a soap free oatmeal based shampoo.  She spends to much time outside rolling in the grass, in the sand and at work with me to not get one each week.
Macy and Guido were getting weekly baths because they were outside all the time, but now that we are in the apartment they are just getting them monthly.
Zeus and Dante get weekly baths because they are outside during the day while im away at work. And i do use conditioner so their skin doesnt dry out.
My boxer book and a couple of other generic dog guides I've read actually said that 3 times a year is all that's needed, and other than that, brushing is enough.  I'd be inclined to agree, Tink can come in absolutely black with muck from head to toe but as soon as it dries it just falls off her.

She went through a phase of rolling in poo a while ago, though, so she got plenty of baths then!

Hector has only had one bath since we got him.

LOL!  I've always loved your tag line about bathing dogs and tasting soap.  So, what you're really saying here is you don't LIKE the soap taste?  ;-)  (I'm totally kidding.)

I bathe mine every month, usually two days before or two days after I put their Frontline on them.
It's soap mixed in with wet dog taste that I have a problem with!
