Last night I was watching animal planet and for the second teacher's pet on the show Petfinder, they had a 1.5 year old brindle boxer.  She was playing with their golden retriever, they ran to the back  yard and the boxer fell into the poor and sank like a rock.  Dina the lady on petfinder had to dive in and save the boxer's life.  I have never seen a dog sink like that before!  Poor boxer, had to be scared to death!

I missed this show.....most dogs can swim and they generally will begin the "doggie-paddle" as soon as their feet are not on solid ground...but, not ALL dogs can swim...some are afraid of the water and panic and it also relates to body mass and lack of body fat....some are just to heavy to maintain their bodies above the water.

My last boxer would sink like an anchor when we put him in the pool. He hated it. His legs would get all tense and he would just freeze up and sink! When we were at the beach he would go in up to his belly, but no further. I think he just hated the pool because he couldn't walk in at his leisure and touch bottom.

Lol, yea Boxers are either "sinkers" or champion swimmers, never anything in between it seems....Someone told me, don't know if it's true, it's due to the lack of tail....Buck was my Olympic swimmer, course we started him at 10 wks...Samson will swim if coaxed in, but doesn't really enjoy it much, but he doesn't sink  :)
