I just thought I'd share this with ya'll. This weekend my son kept complaining of his ear hurting. He has a history of ear infections, so I was concerned. He had a slight fever, and sick to his stomach. Of course it was the weekend and no doctors were open. Sat. night he got so bad he was almost lifeless!! All the time, Harley would not leave his side, licking his Left ear, whining and just plain worried. I took him to the ER and these idiots said he had an alllergic reaction to laundry detergent!!! With a temp of 103 at the ER, the baby screaming, and a slight rash, I was VERY upset!! I had some antibiotics here so I gave them to him until this morning. All the time, Harley stayed at his side, trying his best to lick the infection out. I took him to his reg. pediatrician, and explained everything, even about Harley. To make a long story short, the doctor said I had a very smart dog, and very stupid doctors. He had a sinus infection, and an ear infection. The hospital didn't even give him antibiotics!!!!! So mark one up for the boxers!!!! Christopher is doing better, still hurts.

It's really sad when the ER doctors in our town are so bad, the joke is around here " They'd rather kill you than heal you" but we are in a small town, the the closest big hospital is 45 mins. to an hour away!!! Hey maybe I should get Harley an application to work in the ER? He's better than what they have now!

Yep,Aquagirl got VERY lucky! we waited for 4 hours to get told he'll be fine! I told my mom about it, she was REALLY mad!!! She's an RN, and my step-dad is a vascular surgeon! She said I should file a complaint, but I'd just as soon leave it alone!!

Almost every time I go to the ER I get a bed in less than 10 minutes.
Forgot to mention that if you talk to most ER docs, they will tell you the same thing.  They rarely diagnose anything in the ER.  It's not their job.  They figure out which body system is affected and leave it up to the specialists to diagnose and fix the problem.

most ER's work on a triage system so if you come in with let's say a suspected ear infection and have already been there 2 hours and i come in with chest pains im going to get seen first. When my sister had to go to the ER for a busted leg they asked her if she could walk and she almost said yes. I stopped that. I sat her in a wheel chair and explained how she was in so much pain and couldnt walk. we got in and out fairly quickly. If they think you may be in real pain they take a little moe time to try and figure out whats wrong with you. go figure i thought it was just their reg jobs. Glad your son is feeling better.

I agree, they are suposed to treat people with life-threating illnesses first. I think there may have been 2 other people there. Our ER only has 4 beds! We are far from a level 1 trama center, they usually med flight people with serious problems to Tueplo or Huntsville or Birmingham. They don't have the RN's and Doctors they need to run smoothly. I can understand that they are over-worked and probably very tired. I over heard the doctor talking to a nurse that he had been there over 24 hour! That's a cryin shame, someone could have been misdiagnosed with something more major than an ear infection!! Thanks. Christopher is doing better! I didn't realize that they diagnose people in the ER, but that's a good thing to know. Kinda sheds some light on the situation.

Forgot to mention in my post earlier that as a hospice nurse with terminally ill patients I have seen numerous dogs and cats that knew that their loved one was actively passing way before other family members realized it. They are very intuitive to these types of things.  Sickness/Illness, pain, anxiety, depression.  Children are too.

awww!!! I love stories like this one! although I do agree about your ER visit... thats just

and I love little harley! My old roommate had leukemia as a 4 year old, he said whenever he would come home from the hospital right after his weekly treatment his german shepherd would lay next to him and not leave his side. He would be sick through the night, and the dog would just be planted right next to him.

I hope your son starts to feel better soon! Ear infections are not fun at all! :(
