IMO I would run on the breeding thing.  I dont like foster homes nor people demanding what I am doing with my dogs.  If she is that good to be bred, them IMO she should be evaluated, kept or placed in a show home to see is she is or not.    To me, a breeder placing a pet pup with do just that - make sure its a pet pup.

Sorry for my opinions, but I hate foster programs in dogs unless the dog is on co-ownership with a reputable breeder.

IMO if you want a dog as a pet - go the route "pet pup".

It's not a byb or puppymill.  They are part of the local boxer forums and I see their dogs listed on dog shows.  But, who knows...I'm a newb.

I don't have to show her but they may want a litter.  She will get back to me tonight.

It was a brief phone conversation so I don't know all the details.  When/if I make a visit I will be sure to ask more.  If I have to breed the dog it will be a deal breaker.

FWIW- if I would breed the dog, the breeder will take care of everything.  And they will reimburse me the original cost of the dog or I can get a pup from the litter.

I would not be worried about getting the cost of the pup or another one, I would be more addiment of making sure *if* they are going to breed her, then they will be paying for her echocardiogram, holter, hip extra, and thyroid panel.   Also make sure she is older than 2.  What good is a puppy if she is not happy?

It just gets tricky with breeding.   If she is to whelp where does she welp - your house the breeders etc?  I read a post from someone in the same situation as you - she had to give up her family dog for 2 month so it could be whlped and raise the litter with the breeder - her little girl was crushed and the bitch was stressed out from being away from home.   Def dont want any head issue with a whelping mom.

IMO - do your research, figure out what you are comfortable with and so forth.  Just trying to help, and sure you will get answers when you talk again!   ;)

I guess we can move on from the breeding situation since I will not purchase if I need to do so.  :)

My question now is.....the pup is 5 months but has no training at all besides paper training.  It does not know any commands (e.g sit).  Do you think it will be more difficult to train now?

if the pup was held on to for this long by the breeders for possible showing, he or she must have had some sort of training to be a show dog. if not you must ask yourself why are they selling this pup at this age?

It's a no go.  :(

I have to be a dog pimp if I want to purchase the pup.

The puppy search continues.......

No, I haven't.  At the moment I would prefer to buy from a reputable breeder.

Hey Brooklyn look on craigslist in Va, D.C.,or MD they have alot of boxers on there!! just look under pets. Good luck
Umm, definitely don't do that.  Reputable and responsible breeders do not advertise on Craigslist.  BYBs advertise on Craigslist!

Sorry Brooklyn, about not getting that pup.  Definitely check out http://www.pro-boxers.com/am_breeders.html for a list of responsible breeders.

I know she was trying to help, but any puppies listed for sale on Craigslist would most likely be from BYBs, and Brooklyn said she is looking for a reputable breeder.

But if they are rehoming, the dog is going to probably be older; not sure what age Brooklyn is looking for.
