Before he was neutered a week and a half ago, he was treated for Kennel Cough.  After being on meds for 2 weeks, the cough dissappeared.  He just finished healing up from surgery and we noticed he was doing the backwards sneezes.  Over the weekend, she noticed him coughing a few times.  This morning he was coughing alot.  We took him to the vet, and the x-rayed him for pneumonia (sp?) and bronchitis.  Turns out he has Bronchitis and now has to be quarentined from other dogs for another month.

Has anyone gone through this before and how serious is this?  I was not at the vet for the test, I was just told on the phone.

Awww poor Bruce, he really is having a rough go of it lately....He is going to go stir crazy with that imposed quarantine...Hoping that you can get something to help boost his immune system like Heather was saying..We've been doing the Salmon oil and been really happy with it, besides the fact I have never seen Samson's coat as soft as it is :)

Nicole is heading over there now to the healthy animal for new food, immune boosters, and possible dog walking services.

Poor Bruce - just saw this post and thought the same thing Heather did about a compromised immune system. Hope he is feeling better soon!

This is one of the reasons it is good to NOT let the vet vaccinate prior to surgery.  I prefer to wait a couple of months before or after vaccinating my dogs and having any elective surgery done one them.  Those things do compromise the immune system and then we stress it with the surgery situation.  Hope he gets well soon and glad you are such observant owners to get him in right away.

The shelter pup we fostered had bronchitis.  He was old enough to take Doxycycline, and it cleared up quickly.  I gave him a little yogurt with it.  The vet did not restrict him being around other dogs once the cough cleared up.  He'd also been treated for kennel cough before this.
