Hello
I have a beautiful 7 year old boxer. Emma has been having back issues for the last 2 years. She has been off and on steroids. Until the end of summer I can’t get her off steroids because of pain. We have tried laser treatments, acupuncture. Our vet recommended seeing a specialist who recommended surgery. I’m very scared and concerned. And have not made a decision. Does anyone have any information on bilging disc surgery?

I was just wondering have they fully briefed you on complications and risks of this surgery? I’m sure it’s very expensive too. I have never had to deal with this and hope I never do. Wishing you all the best
It’s very expensive at least 7000. I’m worried about risks. The only other option is to keep her on prednisone. Thank you

Prednisone is not good long term for her either I’m sure you know that. There is a drug called adequan that I get for my dogs it’s a gloucosimine anti inflammatory i wonder if it would help. I see that she is carrying some extra weight I’m sure it’s difficult to excersise her, plus prednisone not helping that. Does she have difficulty walking from the disk? Where is it in her neck or back? Just curious I’m sorry you are in this difficult position with no easy decision here. Just know we care she looks like a sweet girl

Hello,
Emma is not having trouble walking at all. But when I try to get her off pred she is in terrible pain. We have her on gabapentin 300. She is now incontinent and hungry all the time. She is so sweet but her life quality is not good😢I am going to ask my vet about Adequen thank you so very much

The prednisone is making her really hungry and very thirsty leading to the incontinence. When my female was recovering from AIHA she was taking massive doses of prednisone she just could not hold it so I bought human disposable bed pads and put them underneath her blankets and in between the foam and the dog bed easily removed and thrown away I am sorry this is happening

Thank you that’s a great tip I’ve been using pee pads from a dog but I think the human ones would work much better. I’ve taken her out an extra few times during the evening and we didn’t have any accidents last night fingers crossed
