I mistakenly bought non-boneless sardines at the store.  I know raw fish bones are ok, but sardines are technically cooked right?   I can't really find a definitive answer on this, but seems to me I would have to grind up any canned seafood that isn't de-boned of at least the larger bones.  Any thoughts?

Hmm...great question. I would think that because sardines are a soft boned fish, that it would be okay for Oggie to eat them. I believe people can eat the whole sardine,   so I think it should be alright.

Hmmm indeed... I never knew that canned sardines were "cooked" at any rate I feed canned sardines in spring water to mine without deboning.  The bones are so small anyway...
Some people eat salmon bones from canned salmon too, so I don't think it would be a problem.

Well, you guys may be right, but people can eat cooked chicken bones with no problem and they are very dangerous for dogs so I don't think we can use people as a safety measure.  I think the thing here is that some sardines are prepared "boneless," although they do contain very small bones which basically dissolve when eaten.  But I can tell the non-boneless ones are quite larger although maybe they dissolve as well.  I threw them in the blender just for good measure, next time I'll get the boneless!   :D

Yea, I almost bought the same thing when I was shopping last time Sully..And would have been asking the same question...I don't think it would hurt Oggie, raw fish bones I know are fine, heck Samson ate a fish head once  8O by accident, but still....I probably would have done the same thing, grind them suckers up :)

I feel bad, I opened up the can of sardines and he was all excited, but after I blended them and put them in his bowl, he looks at me like: "What is this mush?"

OK my cans only say Sardines caught from the wild (in spring water).  Nothing about cooked or deboned; I smush them up in her food and haven't seen any bones.  They do fall apart easily.
