is he eating or drinking before he is kenneled? are you taking him outside to go to the bathroom before he is kenneled? does he free feed/free water? also make sure he only has enough room to stand up turn and lay down..oh and NO food or water in the kennel...dont know if you do that but that would be a big issue as well

I ask because my Reese will pee/poo in the kennel if she eats and then i forget to take her out (night time or what not) every time i am about to kennel her i will take her out and stay with her until she pee AND poo's. I make sure i have enough time for her to do both. Savannah i have never had an issue with though.

From the mouth of a Professional Trainer:

If he has too much room in the crate he will use it as a latrine.  Also he may have seperation anxiety and is doing it out of stress.  He may also being doing it because you are crating him too long.  Also, if he isnt getting enough mental stimulation or exercise he may resort to this behavior just to have something to do.  He may also be doing it to get nutrients that he isn't getting in his feed as well as get fluids if he isn't getting enough to drink during the day.  Give us some more info so we can help you more.  Such as...

How long is he in the crate during the day?  At night?  Total time in crate for an average 24 hour period?

How often does he go outside?  Are you scolding him after the fact or are you catching it promptly (in the act) and letting him outside so that he may do his business?  How often is he allowed out of the crate just to interact with his family and to play/burn off his energy?  etc...etc...etc...

the one thing you will have to understand is that they are VERY stubborn dogs. If you take him out and he just looks at you, start walking. put him on a leash and start walking about to where he does go. he is drinking alot of water, but i agree with liz on possible seperation anxiety. alot of boxers have it. also to second liz how much time is he out of the kennel? if he is in for 8 hours during the day and around 8 hours at night then the poor guy spends 3/4 of his day kenneled. he is probably getting very bored and tired of being kenneled for such long periods of time.

It sounds like Separation Anxiety to me. I went through this with one of my bitches and it really is something that you need to talk with a behaviourist about. There is no easy fix for SA and it really is a long road that requires A LOT of patience and understanding on the part of the owner.

Like your dog, my bitch peed and pooped her crate each and every time we left the house, even if for only 20 minutes. It was very frustrating and at times, we felt like prisoners in our own home. We were finally able to over come it, but it took a full year of behaviour modification to do it.

I also highly recommend Patricia McConnell's book called, "I'll Be Home Soon". It is a cheap book at around $10 and it will help you to understand what is going on with him.
