I have a 6 month old Boxer pup who has been sleeping on my bed for about the past 2 months. He has grown so fast and it is becoming a problem. About the first 4 months when he was a very young puppy I had him sleeping in a crate every night and I only let him start sleeping with me because he outgrew his puppy crate. So yesterday i went and bought him a full sized crate and put it in the living room all day with the door open allowing him to check it out and stuff throughout the day. I had him eat a few meals in the crate with the door open and gave him a bully stick in there to try and help him like the crate. Night came around and i moved the crate right next to my bed so he wouldn’t feel separated from me. From the moment I put him in there he began to whine. The whining then became barking and he was not going to stop. I allowed him to whine and bark for about 15-20 minutes to see if he would wear himself out and he didn’t. Then i laid down on the floor next to the crate to see if he would lay down and he did and fell asleep for about 1 minute. Next thing you know he is up and barking again. I eventually had to let him in my bed because he was keeping my whole family up. What can i do to get him to stop barking? I know the more I let him sleep on my bed the harder it will be to break him from it so i want to nip this problem as quick as possible. Thanks!

Not much point on "harping" on how you seriously messed up I suppose??? My initial response would be to get a larger bed ... but that's not to helpful I suppose??? :)

So moving on, your not going to be able to solve this in a day???? And as hair pulling as it may be?? It is not a life or death situation??? It's going to be a "process" and to be fair I have never Crate trained a dog myself??? But I am familiar with the process of those who do. And no serious trainer, moves a Crate from the living room into the bed room on a daily basis???

And those trainers to name a few would be Jeff Gellman

Larry Krohn

And of course Leerburgh and his recommendation, tends to be no dogs in the bedroom, period, so not all experts agree on everything.

Long way of saying, the moving the Crate thing is not the best idea??? At any rate moving the Crate back and forth sounds like a PIA??? And it would conflict with my standard advise which would be to feed the dog in the crate period. I have no issue with dogs in bedroom but perhaps a more viable option would be a second Crate???

And beyond that I would harp on Structure in the home. All the "Trainers" I listed train "Place." But rather then harp on that to you yet again.

I'll post these recent threads.

Slight nuances but generally speaking, pretty much the same theme. :)
