So my best friend and I decided to go out fishing for the first time this year. Since we live in MN and it still in the 30's outside, the only place to fish is in the Mississippi. Well be brought Spinx along too because he will go fishing alot with us when he's older, so I wanted to get him used to the boat. Well, the day was going great, I had him leashed to the boat seat, and he was enjoying his first time fishing. He was doing so well (not eating lures or making any other mischief), that i decided to unleash him from the seat and let him walk around the boat. About 25 min later, I had my back turned and I heard a huge splash. I whipped around and my roommate had a bewildered face because he had seen the whole thing. Spinx had just lept over the side of the boat into the river. The scary thing is the mississippi has an extremely fast current, and Spinx does not know how to swim (actually this was his first time being more than ankle deep in water). He was wearing a bright jacket, and he immediately sunk out of view. Bill (my roommate) described the ensuing scene to me afterwards. "You did a superhero leap into the river" Without thinking I jumped in and was able to grab the dog at the expense of my blackberry and flashdrive that were in my pocket. I guess I've learned my lesson now and I will be sure to invest some money into a lifejacket for him. It was a crazy, scary, and expensive day for the 2 of us.
