Re: ? for sharon or anyone (vetty has mild pancreatitis)
Having it does not really weaken the pancreas....Pancreatitis happens when the pancreatic cells are damaged in some way and they leak digestive enzymes. So...just because she has it once does not mean she will have it again or be more prone to it.......
I agree that pork/ham are major causes and also.....dogs that are to weight heavy, eating large amounts of food really fast, high fat levels in the diet...There are some liver disease's that will trigger pancreatitis...However...food is the general cause and in addition to that... high salt content....So it very well may have been the boar bone...pork and salt in that one...
I will be the first to admit I know very little about feeding raw.....so all I can say is to stay with moderate fiber, low fat, low salt and avoid pork. Feed very small portions for the first 24 hours and then introduce the food back in depending on how they are feeling and acting....if they appear to have a stomach ache or still vomiting then I would fast them for at least 24 hours and start back on something bland like chicken and rice or boiled hamburger and rice.....
