Eating Enough?

1201 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  samsonsmom
I feed Lola 2 cups of Canidae in the am around 7 and 2 cups in the pm around 5.  I mix in some wet and yogurt in the am, and just wet in the pm.  Around noon time I give her an apple, some carrots, or a kong with pb.  Lately she's been whining right when she wakes up to eat and around 4:30pm she'll start whinning for dinner.   So I'm wondering is she getting enough food?  Should I be giving her more?  She's been sniffing and whining at us when we eat too lately and that's something she's never done before.  She used to get a 30 to 45 minute walk everyday, but now it's dark and cold by the time I get home from work so her exercise has changed to running around in the yard and house everyday and walks on the weekends, so it's not like her exercise has increased to make her more hungry.
Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Maybe she's going thru a growth spurt?  Does she look abnormally thin or maybe she's just turning into a little piggy )  LOL
Beckham gets 1 1/2 cups, twice a day under 'normal' circumstances.  When he's going thru a growth spurt he'll eat 2 cups, twice daily plus whatever treats at night, but then all of a sudden he will start not being able to finish all of the food so we cut back to 1 1/2 cups.
Maybe add 1/4-1/2 cup extra in the a.m and p.m feedings and see if that helps, but just watch to make sure she's not packing on too much weight.   :))
Little piggy sounds right!! lol!
Something else it could be, the time changed a couple weeks ago, mine are soo schedule orientated that they were wanting to eat an hour earlier than they used to, simply cos according to them it was time to eat! 4 pm was actually 5 to them....Just a thought
Well, I took her to the vet last night and she weighed 58 pounds!! 8O   They said she looked good, but she shouldn't gain any more weight and could afford to lose a pound or two!  Is that big for her age....11 months?  They also said to ignore the whinning, she's eating enough!  Looks like Lola may be on a little diet!
How old is Lola?  Sadie was 62lbs. at 7 months.  I cut her food back and she's trimmed a bit.  She's short and bulky/very muscular legs, shoulders, etc. I would bet your Lola is going thru a growing phase.
Awww, poor Lola, Samson says he feels her pain. he's been on a diet for some time now....I would cut her food back from 2 cups to 1 3/4 each meal, see how that does and ease back on her mid day treats as well... I quit giving mine kongs unless they have a lot of exercise, same with treats....Lola could be having a bit of a growth spurt, but losing a few pounds certainly won't hurt her..Heck Tia was about 2 when she was in qurantine and weighed 65 lbs, the kennel was concerned, as she was gaining weight, so they put her on a diet
