I have had 6 Boxers. I always followed my vet ‘s recommendations and food directions. Zoey my 19 month old female Boxer is 19 months old. She had health issues when i got her at 10 weeks old. She was on Royal canine gastrointestinal intestinal RX puppy food for 16
months. Plus Fora Floria. We do not like the adult formula. She seems to have lost weight on it
(3 pounds) so I am transitioning her to Wellness lamb and barley over the last 6 weeks with a 1/2 cup of adult RC high fiber gastrointestinal intestinal RX food. We have because my mixed rescue other dog needs . Any recommendations on food and I see different recommendations of calories for a Boxer . She seems to have a lot of Gas also. Her calorie intake is about calories 1550 per day.
thanks

My Vet has never recommended lamb as a protein for my Boxers or any fish. I too have had 6 Boxers and have dealt with a variety of stomach issues food allergies ect. Both my current dogs have had sensitive stomachs. My female was badly compromised as a puppy with quite severe diahrea weight loss thru a course of meds she fully recovered in fact now I have to watch her weight, my male is ongoing I have to be careful about what he eats. I give him Purina pro plan sensitive digestion chicken large breed because of his size and cook ground turkey or chicken and put it on their meals he gets a Prilosec on his evening meals as well. After my disaster with grain free dog food I listen very carefully now to what my Vet says

I had a Boxer with IBD, and concurring pancreatitis. He didn't stabilize on any RX diets until he had endoscopic biopsies that identified eosinophilic/lymphocytic enteritis, Lots of ER visits, thousands of dollars, and stress and pain for my wonderful boy. He needed a home-cooked formulated diet from a board-certified vet nutritionist. Manufactured food caused him to react eventually. It was low fat, and hypoallergenic. Fish and Potato using BalanceIt Supplement. We'd been afraid to use prednisone, but he needed a graduated dose when he started the new diet. He finally was good, and didn't get sick. If your dog keeps getting ill enough to have to go to the ER, find an Internal Medicine Specialist who can review what's been tried. In the end it will save you paying for lots of tests, and vet visits that don't get you to a real diagnosis.
