Do you give your dog Flea treatment naturally or using tablets from the vet?

Also do we really need to give Flea treatment during Winter months.

Are these treatments hurting our dogs?

Are there side effects?

Do dogs even need these treatments at all?

All my dogs get NexGard all 12 months to prevent fleas, ticks. They also all get HeartGard all 12 months for heart worm, worm prevention. Kai is 5 now and has been on them for all 5 years, our terrier for almost 8 years. We have been fortunate not to have any ill effects from them. My daughter is switching to Bravecta for Kai only because its taken every 3 months and she says it gives her more time to save the $$ for it.

Our boys now get a shot every 6 months for their heartguard- it is probably some other brand, type, but that's how I refer to it. They have a hard time w/ the chews.

For flea we use a topical monthly. The brand changes and we have used some of the more natural ones too. Since we live in the SE and we have ticks and fleas and more warm than cool months we use it year round. I know some people here who don't use it in the fall and winter...Other than the spots they leave when it's wet, and them sometimes trying to lick it off each other, we don't have any issues.

I am using Interceptor Plus for heartworm and Nexguard for flea and tick I only use flea and tick until the first hard frost till depending on warm up in the spring but I use heartworm preventative year round plus it has some deworming properties as well. I live in the mid atlantic area I think a lot of the flea and tick depends on where you live.

I used flea collar for my dogs, seresto flea colla. If the situation isnt good I'll take it to a vet, but the result is good. I like this collar because it doesn't give out any smell from contained repellant chemicals. I'm very satisfied with this feature of the collar as it considerably reduces the itching and irritation on my dog’s skin.
