Does anyone find glucosamine gives your dog the runs? Im using liquid ubavet formula right now, and am considering another brand, possibly a chewable tablet.

thanks

We used the 100mg Deramaxx chewable pills on our girl. She did very well with these. No upset stomach and we saw a major improvement in her disposition.
I suppose it's possible. . .

I use a product called "Synovi G3" and I can't say enough good things about it. :) It has Glucosamine, as well as Omega Fatty Acids to promote a healthy immune system.

For my dog, we use the chewy pills. We used them origionally for her knee that had been moved out of place. But now we give it to them regularly. They dont give them the runs, and ive actually never heard of any other kind of glucosamin
When you buy the glucosamin do you get it from a pet store?  I bought a bottle for our dog Trigger and it was super expensive.

So far no problems with Trigger taking it.
I've had Samson on Glucosamine for a few years and he has never had any problems at all with it..I just crush the tablets and put it in with his food, pour a bit of broth over it to hide it....
We used it for over 5 years for Calli and Berkeley, we bought the Glucosamine/Chondritain (sp) from Sam's Club.  It is around 15.00 to 18.00 a bottle but that is for alot of tablets.  We checked with our vet first to make sure it was okay to give it to them and they said it was fine.  Our dogs just took it every morning with no problems, we started out giving it to them in a small piece of bread and eventually they just ate it straight.  We give them Vit. E tablets also recommended by our vet and they take those with no problem either (also from Sam's).

We also give ivormec (heartguard) in the liguid form (the type used for cattle).   We started that when calli was about 3 and have continued it for the rest of them after they are over 1 year.  We give it year round.

It is about 40.00 for a bottle which will last 2 years with multiple dogs.  CAUTION on that is that collie's and one or two other breeds (can't remember right now which ones) CAN NOT take it that way and have to have the heart guard tablets.  Boxers are fine on it (we made sure we checked with our vet(s) BEFORE giving it to them.  It was actually recommended to us by a friends sister who is a vet.   Really helped out when we had three dogs.

Angel's breeder also uses Ivormec, when you have 10 boxers, you need every break you can!!! I think I'm going to start using it also...Good price, lasts a long time...
My father in law uses Ivormec with his bird dogs, I prefer the convienience of the chewable heartgard.

Just make sure you get the regular ivormec for cattle and NOT the PLUS one.  That one can kill the dog.
