Harley eating socks and then throwing them up! Help Sharon!!

2702 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Nexu
Harley has had a bad habbit of eating socks and later (usually hours-or longer) throwing them up! I am worried about him because the last couple of times after he has thrown them up, he just lays down. Maybe its nothing to be worried about, but I am afraid that he may get some kind of intestinal blockage from this. We have been extra careful to keep socks up,  and when I have unmatched pair because the dryer ate it, I keep those up!! Does anybody else have this problem?  Can anyone give me some advice?

Yes they can get seriously hurt from sock, as well as Undies - I have a panty theif in my house and we have to take special measures on how we store dirty laundry.

You are lucky he is throwing them up.  I have had to self induce vomiting to get them up since its far easier to do that then to wait and pray they they either come up or pass.  However sometimes they dont and it can become costly even with the life of your dog.

I would find a safe place to store them.  A place where he cannot get to them.   That's all you can do, its responsibility on our (owner) part, because I know I cannot do anything if Hanna eats anything.

Yes I had a friend who was housesitting and the family dog swallowed an entire tube sock.  The dog ended up having to have surgery to remove it.  So compared to that, you're lucky if they throw it up!  Hide your socks

Definitely lucky if there vomitting it up.  The thing both our have ate, only one for each is dryer sheets.  I caught Sadie with 1 halfway down her mouth and got it out.  Charlie puked one up a couple of weeks ago.  With those two, they can find anything.  You might think your house is clean and then they'll walk out chewin on something, etc.

Is there any signs or symptoms I should be aware of if he happens to get socks, undies stuck and cannot pass it? I have put everything he could get a hold of up, but still he finds something!!! I thought they were all up this morning, and he threw one up. I guess double and triple check to make sure there is nothing on the floor!!! Thanks evryone!

If they start to act lathargic, not having any bowel movements, vomiting.  Also pale white gums, as well as not eating.   Any of these, I would call vet asap.

Accidents happen.  Hanna had a panty party yesterday while I was in the shower.  Not cool - nor a way to start the day.   last night i had to buy a latch lock to put on our bedroom door since they know how to open it.   My house looks like Alcatraz with all the double locks on doors etc, however its worth it for safety reasons!

Cooper got my wife's favorite pair last night.  You know how "favorite" underwear usually looks so I was actually thankful they were destroyed. LOL!

There's a poster on this site that lost their dog to them eating pantyhose (a digestive system blockage).  So ya, I'd be pretty worried/careful about the dog eating something like socks or underwear.
