Re: Hello . any one hear of Landos Boxrs??

Personally, no mention of health testing nor do they use any other kennels to bred to.  They bred to their own dogs and any breeder should not have the perfect mate in their own backyard, hence why most mating come from two kennels.

They also do the FOSTERING program which I Detest.   This means, they want you to pay for the care and upbringing of your dog, but they want to use the dog for breeding.   Thus IMO just pimping out your pet.   You need to be careful in situations like these.  Yes, some dogs are sold in the us on co-ownerships but dogs are mostly on co-ownerships for show prospects and thus is they prove to be good quality breeding stock, and pass health testing then can be used for breeding.  Foster programs are mainly IMO for breeding.

You also have to be VERY careful with Euro dogs in the US.  Many brokers get these dogs from Europe that their own kennels dont want - bad hips, bad backs etc.   They are not screened and these brokers sell them to breeders in the US and they turn around and just breed to make EURO puppies, and sell them for a big price.

What are you looking for???

I specifically asked her about that. (I have had two boxers die of heart attacks.) They are heart and hip checked. She garentees them for three years.

I would be aprehensive going anywhere that has that "fostering program": or so they call it.  IMO...shady shady.

Awesome!!! :) I am a worrier about this stuff too as I lost my first Boxer WAY to young!!! :( So I will add this :)....If it were me I would want to see hard copies of the heart results.  Make sure its a 24 hr Holter and Auscultation/Echo by a board certified Cardiologist. Some breeders say heart clear after they have only had a Vet listen to the heart. As I said on another thread the other day....breeders are usually glad to show you the results of good health testing!! Again good luck :)

I would ask for hard copies.  Just be be sure ESP with imports.  I also like to see how a breeder got their imports - directly from the kennel or from a broker, or another breeder in the US/Canada.

I like to see kennel names on dogs (pegirees), not just first names on their websites.  To me you should be proud of the lineage of your dogs, and also by seeing a pedigree, you can trace the lines yourself and check out the background - that me - I am super anal:)

Is this the kennel you are getting your pup from that you posted ?  The fawn girl?  If so why are you asking about them, is there something that is kind of not sitting right???

Re: Hello . any one hear of Landos Boxrs??

The fawn girl is from another breeder, I am considering not getting her, even though I really want to. I am in love with her already. The only resason is the the mother had non breeding registation, and obviously she was bred any way. I also have a non refundable deposit on her.:( Not sure, I dn't hav much money, but I want  a good dog

Ps do y ou think I could get my money back, because the mom is on nonbeeding contract??

I would try!!!!! In the end you will probably save way more money than your deposit if you wait and get a good puppy from a reputable breeder that health tests. Dealing with heart issues or other health problems will costs you plenty not to mention heart break!!!

Re: Hello . any one hear of Landos Boxrs??

Did you put down the deposit down after you knew about the mother having a non-breeding contract?   If so, then to me that is terms for a refund.  If you knew and then put down, you can try - but the fact they bred a bitch who was not supposed to would not want me to have any part of anything.  What happens if the owner who placed the pup in a non-breeding contract found out about the litter and thus had right to claim the pups or something like that ?  IMO not a situation I would want to get into either.

However you have to make a decision that you are comfortable with, and one that you feel all information was presented and verified.   Having lost two boxers as you have, taking the extra time and combing thru everything making sure you are getting the best pup for your dollar, is totally worth it IMO.

Good LUck!!

Re: Hello . any one hear of Landos Boxrs??

I'm like Heather, I like to look at pedigrees, trace a line and see which ones I am familiar with...I don't see any of that, or if any of these dogs have been shown( take that back, one male looks like may have been shown), no mention of finished champions....She says she health tests, I would also want to see hard copies....Too me, you cannot consistently breed from your own stock, you are not always going to have the perfect match all the time, you need to breed out, that also brings in a new bloodline as well

Re: Hello . any one hear of Landos Boxrs??

Thanks everyone for this insightful thread. I posted the link on our Boxer Club of Hawaii link-had 0 idea about the European lines thing. I always wondered how breeders got those dogs in from there. So many breeders here in Hawaii have dogs from European lines and I am glad more information was provided here. Of course, finding a dog out in Hawaii that has every health check that the ABC recommends is pretty much not an option. I am told by the top showdog breeders that the vets here don't even have all the equipment to run some of the tests. So, BYB is very prevelant in our region. I get 3-4 e-mails a week from people wanting boxer pups and many will get them no matter what. So, I just do my best to put out good information.

Sorry for the post hijak...:) hope you find a good dog and yes, if you put a deposit down on a dog that you thought was going to be AKC, you may be able to take legal action to get the money back if they won't refund it but you would have to prove that in writing. Did you have a contract?

Re: Hello . any one hear of Landos Boxrs??

I have knowledge of Landos Boxers. Most of their dogs are not hip certified. Also, they are not heart tested. They just have clearances from the vets. She occasionally uses another kennels stud dog to "improve" and add euro lines to her dogs. None of her dogs are imported. Last year she had approx. 75 puppies, this year I know of 6 litters that have already been sold and her site says she is expecting two more fall litters.

Personally, I think this is nothing but a backyard breeder. BUT.. I know several friends that have Landos puppies/dogs and they have never had any health issues with them. A couple of them are older dogs too. So all you can do is do your homework and proceed with caution.

All the talk about shipping worldwide and break downs in cost says it's a mix between a BYB and puppy mill IMO. I would expect to see a site like this on puppyfinder.com. No health testing mentioned and the amount of dogs being bred can't be good either.

Re: Hello . any one hear of Landos Boxrs??

I've just joined Boxer Forum.  I had a bad experience with Landos Boxers. I was told they test the dogs and we bought a beautiful boxer baby that ended up dieing 7 weeks later from immune mediated poly arthritis. We spent $2,500. in vet fees (which I would do again in a heart beat) and involved the breader with what was happening.  When my baby died calls were not returned and the health guarantee would not be honoured.  Good luck with your new baby and if you did purchase from Landos I hope you have a better experience.

Re: Hello . any one hear of Landos Boxrs??

Redd sorry for your loss.   I have seen way too many people as well as dogs experience sadness and unfort. loss of life due to sub-par breeding.   Its unfot that thru a bad experience people then learn what to look for in a breeder.   Hoping that if you have not yet found another boxer, that your experience will lead you to a responsible, reputable breeder in which you have a family pet that lead a long long life!!!
