Hello all...! Newbie here... My name is Justin and with my boy Chief..!  He's a 2.5 y/o fawn male and a wonderful part of our family. We adopted him from a local family 2 months ago and he is our first boxer. What an experience and what a dog... He's a great loving, playful and now obedient part of our family.

I just figured I'd stop and introduce ourselves... We look forward to becoming a part of this community!

Thanks Justin  :D ..may I ask how much does Chief weigh.?? And if you don't mind sharing..what were the circumstances behind your neighbors giving that sweet boy up?  (Lucky YOU got him regardless, but I'm trying to understand people who give a dog they owed for 2 years away..Hmmm maybe they are not Boxer "lovers" SHAME SHAME!! )

Thanks Chaos and Nikki....!!

@AshleysMom - Chief is just shy of 70 lbs. - Straight up the story is this...  My wife has always wanted a boxer... I wasn't ready for a new dog yet as we lost our shep to cancer a few years ago which I found on the side of the highway many years ago and just before I found him I had to put down my Akita for health reasons.

Well while doing my daily troll on Craigslist here in ny I came across a post about someone looking to give up their boxer.....  Well I emailed immediately....! - We went to visit Chief and his owners to find out they've had him since he was a baby - flew to a breeder in Kansas to get him - then for the last 2 + years he was locked in a kitchen, not played with enough and spent quite a bit of time in the backyard alone...

I immediately told them that we'd love to have him.. ( they then asked for $500 ) and a week later dropped him off at my house. To be honest Chief didn't even whimper when they left.

The last bunch of weeks has been training - LEASH TRAINING - that he was not used to being on!!!!!!!!!!  Crazy people..
But he's taken well to it, after only 5 weeks I can let him off the leash and he obeys all commands... Great dog and is very happy.

Bottom line, as they said - "He doesn't suit our lifestyle" - whatever the hell that means...  That's like turning in your kid... and hell I have 4 of them too...!! :)

So that's our story in a nutshell.

Again thank you to all for the warm welcomes and I have to say I've been reading the entire forum the last couple of hours... I'm addicted already.....

I'm a programming / web developer by trade so I'll be passing through at all times from now on!! :)

Diva,

Yeah Chief is here too - he is up my @ss at all times...  lol..  I move he moves.  I go he goes.. like my kids but worse...  but it's all good.

Loving the forum - and all of the reading... This is my first boxer and the wealth of information and experiences of others compared to my own thus far is proving to a fantastic resource in addition to the group of people here.

Justin
