I agree with the crating idea and the spray for specific things when you are in the house and get up to go to the bathroom- in fact, if you catch him chewing on something when you come back from the bathroom, spray him in the nose. That is what I did to get my puppy to not puppy chew my child. It only took a few times and did not hurt him.
I have only recently begun to leave Cactus out at night and that is because I know he will be sleeping. (He is five months old). I did try to leave him out once while I was gone during the day and I had chewed up paper towels alllllllllll over the place. Never again.
