Hi Everyone,

I've just brought my newly adopted white male 2.5 yr old boxer home and well he's my shadow already!!! Can't complain about that at all :0)

I am concerned however for when I have to return to work on Monday, I can't be out of his sight for more than a minute or so before he starts to cry for me.  My mother will be home periodically throughout the day, so he'll never be home along for more than 2 hours.

I believe that the home he came from didn't provide much loving to him and now that he's getting it I think he's afraid it may not continue!!!  That'll never happen as I giving him his forever loving home.  If anyone has any pointers or knows of any training that might help please post.

Thank you!

I would start leaving him alone for a few minutes at a time over the weekend, make it a bit longer each time.  That way he can see that you are coming back and not leaving him forever.

Follow Kiah's mom suggestions. I would also suggest giving him a smaller space to relax in.  Maybe a babygate across your bedroom door (so he can see out, no closed doors) and his doggie bed in there so he has your scent all day.  Also give him a very yummy bone that he only gets when you leave.

Welcome and best of luck with him.

Oh I hear ya there. when I brought Samson home at the age of 6, he was Velcro dog. Followed me everywhere, including bathroom, course I also started taking me with me a lot of places as well, so that may have made matters worse....He had severe S/A. Broke out of his first crate, tried to dig a hole thru the linoleum, it was really bad...Like yours, I really believe that he thought he was going to be left again..He didn't like the crate, so sometimes it was tough to get him in there, but we perservered and eventually he got free run of the house...Try leaving a radio on for him or the tv. Leave an item of your clothing as well, like an old T-shirt..Don't fuss over him when you leave, or when you come back..It may take a bit of time, but he will start to realize that YOU WILL COME BACK!  :)
