I brushed Henry's teeth on Wednesday and he was fine.
Then yesterday, we were playing with a tug toy and I noticed a broken tooth.
As you are looking at him, it is the lower left canine.
I'm calling the vet tomorrow, just wanted to see what y'all thought.
Is there anything I should do?  He doesn't seem to be in pain; still eating and playing tug.

Thanks,
Z

Aww poor Henry!  The vet will probably pull the tooth as I don't think they can do much to fix it for him.  For now , just keep doing what your doing with him if he seems to feel fine about it.  How do you think he broke it off?  Tug? Bones?  must be from something althought one doesn't always know what happened.

Hopefully not.  But it isn't easy to fix a tooth and a broken one can get infected.  They may be able to refer you to a canine dentist.  I'm not sure about that.

I have seen it go three ways.....I have seen them left if they are not causing pain, the root is not exposed or any part of the pulp, I have seen them pulled which is sometimes a good route to go but the K-9 tooth is very large the part under the gum is longer then the part that sticks above the gum and I have seen them reffered to a specialist for a root canal and cap to be placed on the tooth (that was with a police K-9 unit dog and they got him a gold cap :) )......Your vet should be able to direct you the best way.....It really depends on where he broke it........Just because there is not pain today does not mean there wont be in a day or two also....

How it happened....there is no telling pulling on a chew rope usually does not cause a break unless it was already cracked or something.

Hope Henry is OK!!!  I have this same fear for Koa.  He's not so "coordinated" so he runs his mouth into just about everything.  Just waiting for the day when he knocks out/breaks a tooth.

We just got back from the vet.  Vet took one look and said Ooo, ouch!  Vet recommends the root canal/cap option as opposed to removing the tooth.
Called the doggie dentist in Houston, got an appointment for Feb. 6.  Pain meds and antibiotics in the meantime.  Henry was kind of moping around and crying this morning, which he never does!  So I'm glad we got some meds for him.
So, I'll let y'all know how it goes on Feb. 6.

Glad to hear you got him referred to a specialist.  I always try to get referred in situations like that.  Good luck on the 6th, we'll be thinking of you both.
