Here's another dog food question
Has anyone ever tried Wysong dog food.

I worked at a clinic in Texas that carried it along with the Veterinary Prescription Wysong diets and we had great success with it. It was a good food. Will it agree with a Boxers belly....hmmmmm.....who knows, but that is a shot on any food. My Great Dane used to eat the Senior and did well on it. It does have corn in some of the lines and there is one that is high protien....Check out the web site and compare.

Thanks for the responses, I've got to change food again because I don't feel that Kane is getting enough of what he needs. He was a rescue dog and very thin when I got him. He had previously been fed a cheap grocery store brand and I switched him to nutro Natural Choice, but I'm just not seeing the results I was hoping for. I assume it takes some time to undue the damage done by neglect and poor food in the past, and perhaps there is nothing wrong with the Nutro, but he sheds constantly, his nails are brittle (infact that shatter when he gets out and runs hard) so I'm just looking for the best food that will set well with him. Sounds like Canidae is very good, but Wysong really worked wonders -- again that was years ago. It's hard know what to look for in good dog food or rather what to avoid. Thanks again.
Yes it is hard to choose. I recently tried switching Fiona to a food called Blue Buffalo, because it got great reviews. She loves it, but it upsets her stomach. So, I saved it to use as treats when we play, train and walk.
I started her out on Purina One Large Breed Puppy and she was doing good on it. I cant even remember why I decided to try something else.
We sell Purina One at work and send a free bag with every (1st shots visit) puppy. I do think it is a good food and I have never seen one who did bad on it.
She has gained well, her skin and coat looks great and she has fewer and more solid stools. I have gone back to it.

The first ingredient in this food is a named meat source. Unfortunately, it is chicken inclusive of its water content (about 80%). Ingredients are listed by weight and chicken inclusive of water weighs substantially more than the ingredient will once the water is removed the extrusion process. In the absence of any other meat products in the food, it is likely, therefore, that there is very little meat product in this food.
The next two ingredients are decent quality grains, and these probably make up the vast bulk of the food. Poultry fat, however, is an ingredient of unidentified origin for which it is impossible to determine source or quality. Unidentified ingredients are usually very low quality. Yeast culture is not a suitable ingredient for dogs who suffer allergies or yeast infections. There is a good range of probiotics in the food.
Note that poultry fat is the fourth most prolific ingredient in the food, and likely the third once the ingredient "chicken" has it's water content removed. A fat so high on the ingredient list has been identified as a bloat risk factor in large breed dogs (Purdue University research).

Thanks for all the input, and thank you Dieselsmom for the research -- just got home from the store and went with Canidae. The little natural pet food store agreed that it's very popular with boxer people. AND..... Kane loves it. He sniffed the bag all the way in, rolled on the floor and wiggled until I gave him his bowl. This is a first since I have had him. So, thanks everyone, I think we have a winner.... at least until I see how it comes out the other end lol. Love this forum and all the dedicated people who are so willing to help us newbie moms out.
harley also eats the purina one brand as well. its what my vet recommended as the next best thing besides the vet brand he sold (that was way over our budget) she has done great on purina ever since a pup.
Just remember to switch slowly and not all at once.
