I swear this dog is gonna give me a heart attack before I turn 35! I woke up this morning and noticed this big DARK red spot going around the sore we have been trying to heal. Anyone know what this red blotch is?? I called her vet already and left a message but I'm nervous on what it is. Is this what hives look like?? I checked her over and see no other spots just this one and it's going up to her neck area.

Re: Hives question.. help!

That sure does look odd.  I'm not sure it's hives though....there are usually more than one bump.  Hopefully it's not infected.  It's a good thing you are checking with the vet.  Let us know what they say!

I have no idea on this one.  :? It kind of looks like a spider bite to me.  Is she scratching it? Like mom2scoutandgunner just said, hives are usually more than one and they are also raised. This looks like it is flat on the skin. Let us know what the vet says. Hugs to you and Chloe.

Re: Hives question.. help!

No scratching at all and it is flat on her skin, that's why I was unsure about it being hives. Her vet just called me back and I tried to explain it the best I could and he said he didn't like the sounds of it so off to the vet we go at 10:00. It's gotten even bigger since I took that pic this morning. I'm beyond worried now  :(

Re: Hives question.. help!

Just an update on Chloe.

All 5 vets there are stumped on what is causing the redness. They took blood to check and see if she had canine anaplasmosis, something they get from a tick bite and can cause a red rash but that came back negative.  They did a fine need aspirate on the sore she has on her chest and there were no signs of it being cancer.
I showed him the spot we just found on her back last night and they used a needle on that also. Under the microscope that is showing signs of a mast cell tumor  OR just a allergic reaction to a bug bite.

Just when I thought I couldn't get any more bad news they also heard a heart murmur. They are going to give it one week for the spot on her back to go away, giving her benadrayl 3 times a day along with Animax ointment. If it's still there in a week they want to take both spots off and send them to Cornell University. But before all this can be done I have to bring her to a heart specialist on July 23rd to perform a echocardiogram to see how severe her heart murmur is and to make sure it's safe for her to have the lumps surgically removed.

Chloe was a little trooper thru the whole ordeal today..giving everyone kisses and her little nubby going crazy. All the vet techs and dr's were so proud of her.
I'm praying for the best because I'm already crying like crazy and we aren't even sure yet that it's cancer. Her vet said it's a 50/50 chance. I don't know how I'll handle it if it is. Please keep Chloe in your prayers, she's going to need it.

Oh jeez, nobody wants to hear the "c" word.  But, there is a chance that it's not cancer, so try and think positive. I know how hard it is, our babies just have a way of worrying us beyond belief.
Also, remember on the heart issue, some vets have a way of making things sound really terrible. A cardiologist will tell you exactly how it is. When my Buster was diagnosed with boxer cardiomyopathy, I thought that was the end. I went to the cardiologist and after tests and more tests and monitors they put my mind at ease and said it wasn't that severe and his was controlled with meds.
I'm praying and hoping for the best for Chloe. Paws and fingers crossed as well. Give her some hugs from me too!

Oh no poor you and Chloe.  I know I'm all worried about B now too,so we're going into the vet after work today.

Try not to think about anything but positive thoughts, things usually aren't as bad as you think.

You're in our thoughts!

Oh my, how stressful for you and your baby.  We will keep our fingers crossed and send lots of positive vibes!  I am sure that all will be fine; its the unknown that seems more scary, I know.

B's bump seems rather big, plus he now has one on one of his toes, so as Morgan said, we're bringing him in.  What is going on with boxers and bumps??

**lots of hugs**

We're praying for you. :(

I was born with a heart murmur.  Depending on how large it is will determine what will be done about it.  Mine has gotten smaller with time.  The only real restriction I have is not to work the heart too hard.  Exercise, but not too hard; etc.

We love ya!

Thanks everyone, I can't tell you how much it means to us. You all are great for helping me get thru this. It bothers me a lot to see her so sleepy from the Benadryl. But I know it has to be done. {Hugs to you all} from me and Chloe!

Hello, I am new to this site and joined to try to get some answers on the "hives". I see this is a pretty common problem among Boxer owner's and I have to jump into the boat here. My Boxer is 9 months old, and his bumps on his back have spread down his legs and get worse and worse every week. We've changed shampoos, etc., nothing helps, just gets worse. They scab up and he starts to loose hair. Some friends of ours also had this problem w/ their Boxer and the vet didn't know what it was. We have another dog and he's fine, it's just the Boxer!! I feel bad for him, it seems to be itchy!! Anyone with information please help my puppy!!
