Deuce keeps on coughing i guess is what you would call it.  It's like he is trying to throw up or somethin like that but he never does.  He has been doing it for about 2 days.  My roommate just had strep throat and I was wondering if dogs could catch it and how long I should wait to take him to the vet

When Deuce coughs is a little foamy, like white spit?  Allie had a cough like that a couple of years ago and it was due to her allergies.  I took her to the vet and they gave her an antibiotic for a day or two and I think I had to also give her benadryl.  I recommend taking him to the vet just to be sure of what it is.  Keep us posted on his progress and I hope he is ok soon.

From what I understand the only contagious disease from animal to human and visa/versa is Lepto. I have one of the 2 vacinations for this already done for Ashley. It IS an upper respiratory infection, that dogs pass to humans...no thanks!
Anyway..I hope your Deuce is feeling better soon. ( and keeping my fingers crossed you had him immunized for Bordatella too!!) Ashley and I will be thinking of you today.. but a call to the vet may be in order here.

I hope Deuce starts feeling better, you may wanna take him to the vets.  It's highly unlikely, but it's my understanding that staph can be passed from people to animals.  Speaking for the guy that had MRSA staph and God only knows what else I got when I was grappling.  I quit taking that class because they wouldn't clean the mats, and by the time I got home to shower, it was to late.  That's what the doctors told me!

There have been a few times when that white foamy stuff has come up.  I don't really know what Bordatella is but the only vacinations I have had done are the normal ones that puppies have.  He's only 4 1/2 months old

Oh, sorry..Bordatella = Kennel Cough. I understand this can be transmitted from even walking your dog at Petsmart and him smelling a previous "mess" on the floor. Also walks that might let him sniff feces of infected dogs. Apparently..it sounds like what we would call Bronchitis, but it doesn't stop with out medical intervention. Its the weird spray they give dogs at about 3 months of age up the snoot...Ashley HATED hers!

Thanks.  I just looked it up and read about it.  He hasn't lost his appitite or anything so it's not a severe case yet.  I bet he picked it up over at the dog park because there are so many other dogs there and he can just sniff anything over there

Just a reminder that the shot for kennel cough does not cover all strains,  even if your dog is vacinated they can still get kennel cough from a strain that was not in the vacine; kind of like a flu shot for people

When I first brought lucy home my old roommate also brought home an adult dog adopted from petsmart, he was some assortment of small dogs compounded into one...He kept coughing though and within a couple days lucy was too...I immediately made an appointment to the vet, and they decided it was kennel cough so they gave her a shot i think...i could be wrong, it was 6 months ago...I do know for sure they gave me some pills to give her antibiotics.

but i cant believe they would adopt out a dog with kennel cough, he was also UNNEUTERED!! i thought that was mandatory for any dog you are adopting out to be spayed or neutered! of course they told her she could come back and get him neutered for only 15 dollars, she never did cause she was super irresponsible  :x ...made me super mad!! I wont get into though, luckily we are no longer roommates!  #:-S

I took Deuce to the vet this morning and they said that he had a bronchial infection which was the beginning stages of kennel cough.  They gave me some antibiotics to give him.  I have to keep him away from dogs for the next 10 days or so which really sucks because this is my spring break week and I was gonna take him to the dog park a lot since the weather is gonna be nice.

I'm so glad you took him in! Isn't it sad that our babies are subjected to diseases just from a walk in the park?  Also, did you check his records to see if he has had the Bordatella yet?? I agree wholeheartedly with Kiahs Mom..it may not cover all strains, but a little protection helps!
Ashley and I send lots of belly rubs and puppy kisses to Deuce...hope he's feeling better soon!!
