Hey everyone,

I just wanted to know how many of you guys went out running with your Boxers? I don't have a Boxer myself, but I love them! I know that they can't take extremes in heat, but do any of you guys go jogging with your dogs? How far do you go? Just thought it would be a fun topic. :)

Yes, Jetta's longest run was 16 miles, any longer and she will be sore =(.  I give her glucosamine every day to help with the long runs.  Jetta is my five year old boxer.  The vet recommended medium size dogs for running.  It's a lot of impact on large dogs.

Definitely avoid weather extremes, altho with the running Boxers would do better with the colder  rather than warmer...Living in the South, my walks in the summer are always done early(before 7 am)..Boxers are slow growers and strenous exercise like running, long walks, agility etc needs to wait til after 18 mos, to insure that the growth plates have closed...Work up to it, just like with us humans and always watch your Boxer for signs of stress or trouble breathing,,Also, try to stay off concrete, grass & sand would be better on the joints

I'm training for a marathon as well, I've only ran a half up till this point.  Jetta's max is 16 miles, any longer and she will be miserable!  But her favorite distance is about 7 miles!  Every dog is different, though.
