Still trying to find a good food that Kiah will do well on (Canidae (didn't work), Solid Gold (started out better but ended up not working), TimberWolf Lamb and Apple half way through the bag and not working.  She was on Pro Plan Chicken and Rice when I got her and doing well but I don't like the ingredients.  I now am thinking of trying the Purina Sensitive stomach and skin (graded an A on the grading of foods) or Purina ProPlan Selects Natuaral Salmon and Brown Rice (recommended by a Boxer owner who has a Boxer with stomach problems).  Didn't see grading on that and I have a hard time grading foods myself.  Those of you who understand the ingredients will you let me know what you think.  Link below:

Thanks for your help.

I would assume (and that's a dangerous thing), that dog allergies are like human allergies.  I had one son that developed allergies to everything he had ever eaten when he was 14 months old.  We had to start from scratch and feed him one food at a time - starting with finding a human breast milk bank - to feed him anything.  Luckily my sister happens to be a nurse and found a source for the breast milk for him.  From that point on it was adding one food at a time, very slowly until his body stopped reacting to food and he couldn't eat anything that he had had prior to this happening, ie., rice cereal, bananas, all the baby foods you can think of.  It was a real challenge and we had to go to allergy specialists all the time.  He is fine now, but it was a very hard time for  along time.  I wish you luck and hopefully you can find a vet that specializes in allergies.

In the meantime, perhaps a raw diet would be something to try.  Because you just don't know what ingredient is causing the problem.    Keep us posted and maybe Sharon might have some suggestions for you.

You can get Purina for sensitive stomachs? Macy has been having problems with her food too. Her stool is really soft and lately has had a white mucus on it. I think that it might be the new treats so I am cutting those off.

I am going to switch their food soon, but I don't know what's going to be best, so I'll have to trial them out.

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having... wish I could be of some kind of help. Everyone is giving you really good advice so far... I'd definitely ask the vet what he thought was going on. They'd probably be able to really help... at least a good vet would I would think! Good luck!

The vet suggested that we go back to the Purina Pro Plan Chicken and Rice (what she was being fed) since she did well on that and didn't have any problems (not a good food but it may be better than having an upset tummy all the time).  I told them I wanted a better quality food so the vet said to feed her one food at a time, finish the bag without giving her anything extra. It was going to be a trial and error to see what foods she can tolerate.  The only time that we have been off the plan was for her birthday and I just couldn't not give her any treats especially with her guests getting them.  I did give her some non-fat plain yogurt for her upset tummy after her birthday.  I have been using her food as treats for obedience (glad she loves the taste).

Glad you have a plan.  You have to stick with what works.  Good luck and hope things settle down for her.  She is lucky she has something she tolerates.

Barb....Did I totally miss what is going on with Kiah????

Is it a skin issue or just the throwing up and/or bad stools?

Sorry to hear you are still having problems.  We had something very similar with our Teaki and took a long time to find a food she would eat and keep down.  The one that works for her is Bil-Jac I know it isn't a high rated food but it is the only one so far that she will eat and keep down and she loves it.  Before she wouldn't even eat the food, many days she didn't eat anything but a couple of pieces of kibble with the other brands.  Now she is right there waiting for her food and she keeps it down.  We also have Ziggi on it and he loves it too and they both are doing very well on it but it does contain corn so not sure if yours has an allergy to that, ours doesn't.

I am going back to pro plan but the selects brand with no corn or wheat, salmon and brown rice.  It may not be the best but I feel like she will be getting the nutrition, not pooing it out or throwing it up.  I will let you guys know.  Thanks for everyones help, especially you Sharon.

Poor Kiah, Barb it really is frustrating trying to find a food that our babies do well on sometimes...We want to give them the best possible and it sometimes that isn't what works, so go with what works for Kiah, at the end of the day, that is what really matters...Hugs to that sweetheart, she's sure had a rough time with her food lately.

Please do consider this.  I've done a slew of research on the topic over the last week and am convinced it really is the best diet for all dogs, but particularly for ones who are showing signs of distress.

Thanks, if this food does not work that is one of the options I have been considering.  She just loves the taste of the new food and didn't throw it up (although it was only 1/4 of her food now).  We will see what happens when she is on it full time.

We are in the process of switching Henry to Nurto Natural Choice Lamb Meal and Rice.  Yesterday we did 50-50 of the old and new food and no vomit today! :D
