I am feeding my dogs Science Diet Senior right now and I was thinking about buying a better brand of food for my dogs.  I have heard good things about Kirkland dog food, anyone else have any experience with this food, good or bad?  I just feed my dogs kibble, they dont get people food except for the occasoinal yogurt or egg fix.  Anyone have any suggestions?  Since we just got Bruce we are in food transition phase and I figure this would be a good time to transition both dogs to a new food.
Thanks for the help,
Rich

It's rated well and it seems to me someone else was asking about it...Kinda weird that Costco would carry such a good food, but also cool too...I love Costco  :)

I changed Paco to this a while ago, he's on his second bag and thriving. He loves it and he can be a little picky about plain kibble. We never had any tummy problems with the switch and his gas issue remains under control on it (I also add a spoonful of plain yogurt in the am). It seems to be rated well and the best part is that it is half the price of what I was feeding him and the quality is just as good.  :)

Also, those of you that have a Target, check out their foods as well, Dr Fosters sells their premium food at some of the locations :)

We do feed our 8 month old puppy this.  I saw the great ratings it received and stopped at Costco as soon as he was finished with the Canidae that the breeder had him on.  He likes this food just as much as the Canidae.  We haven't noticed any stomach problems either. We also had a little plain yogurt to it to give him a little more protein, but he eats it just fine if we don't.  We have been feeding him this for about 3 and a half months and he is just about finished with his second bag.  Seeing that it is less than $20 a bag, it calculates to about $10 a month in food.  You can't beat that.   The only "complaint" I have is that even though it says it is a 40 lb bag, it doesn't fit in my 40 lb. + dog food container.  But who can complain about getting more for your money, right?

We used the following grading system when we were deciding which food to give him.  As you can see, there is only a two point difference between Kirklands and Canidae; both receive an A+.  The best part is Kirklands is under $20 for 40 lbs, whereas we were paying about $40 for 40 lbs of the Canidae.

Start with a grade of 100:
1) For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points
2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat, meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points
3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points
4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points
5) If the same grain ingredient is used 2 or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. "ground brown rice", "brewer

The yogurt is great for gas, that's why so many of us feed it...A teaspoon, once a day is really all you need to give, especially in a young pup..If you can find a yogurt that has probiotics, all the better :) Another good thing is fish oil, it's great for the immune system and makes a glossy soft coat...There is a topic regarding this in the General Boxer section if you want some more info :)
