Hi,
I'm thinking about getting a puppy. Has anyone heard of Lakeside Boxers in Williamstown, NJ?

Thanks!

Ok I have some more information. I visited the breeder this weekend to look at one of her flashy fawn females.

-The dam and 'grandmother' were on site. Both seemed very friendly.
-The sire was not on site, but I was shown pictures of him.
-The breeder gave me the pedigrees of both the sire and the dam.
-I was also shown certifications of health checks for both parents and was told I would get copies of these if I decided to purchase from her.
-There were still a few puppies left in the litter, all were indoors and seemed very friendly. The pup I was looking at was very very friendly and playful.
-The puppies have received their all first shots, the max 5, parvo & distemper, they also have had their heart guard. I was shown copies of this and will be given copies if I purchase the pup.

-I asked the breeder for references and was told that she doesn't know provide references bc it's personal info. that she doesn't give out without their permission (shady).
-She does provide a warranty, haven't seen it in writing yet, but she told me verbally.
-The breeder was able to answer all my questions and did ask me questions about myself/background/etc.

She is asking $1500 for this puppy. What do you guys think? Should I ask her any other questions? I think what's bothering me about this one is that she didn't provide me references when I asked. I also attached a picture of the pup.

Thx!

I did check all the show that I was at in the last six months, she has not shown any dogs in that time or has any dogs shown by anyone else. What line did her dogs come from.

How many litters has she had? How many litters has the damn of the puppies had? Does she show the damn does the sire of the litter show? If not were they evaluated by someone and what makes them a great representation of the breed to be breeding prospects?

Also why did the breeder choose that particular mate for her bitch (there *should* be reasons behind why a breeder mates their dog to another).

What health tests were done? Holter and what was the flow rate on the Echo? Is there a non-breeding contract or s/n? Limited / Full Reg.

Some of the answers to those questions can tell you if the breeder is ligit or not as through as some should or would like them to be for some one selling their pups for 1500.00. ;)

Any breeder would be glad to talk about health, temeperment and the thoery behind what they are breeding. Because in every planned litter there is a reason behind what they are doing and what they are hoping to get out of it - because if not, then why are they breeding in the first place???

Sire: Triwin's Victor (WP96054402)
Dam: Princess Abagale Von Licalot (WS19785502)

The sire of the litter is Triwin's Victor who I believe is shown by a separate breeder, here's a link to that site http://www.triwinboxers.com/index.html. The dam from what I gather is not shown, but I have to double check on that. The dam's name is Princess Abagale Von Licalot. I have the pedigrees for both at home and can give that info later today. The breeder told me she has been breeding for 8 yrs now.

Both the damn and the sire have been registered with the OFA and have have been cleared for cardiomyopathy and hypothyroidism. She showed me the originals of the test results and I requested copies of all the health tests performed.

There is not a non-breeding contract, although I don't plan on breeding anyway. She also asked me if I planned on showing the puppy, which I do not either. This puppy would only be a family pet. She did ask me if I wanted a full or limited registration. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would only need a limited registration since I don't plan on breeding nor showing the puppy.

Thx for all your help. This is such a difficult process in weeding out the 'bad' breeders, but I definitely appreciate all the help.

The only thing about the website is there is tons of pictures of dogs, and being showing but no names nor many thing else talking about them. However I know off hand that you cannot judge people by a website.

http://www.newcastleboxers.com/breederquestions.shtml is a great tool to determine what kind of people you are dealing with.

The reason I ask if they are selling on full or limited registration is because many reputable and responsible breeder do have litters and deem puppies "Show Prospects" and "Pet Puppies". The show prospect normally most of the time depending on the breeder go with full reg on a co-ownership with the breeder. The pet pups go on limited reg with a non-breeding clause or Spay/neuter contract in the agreement. Reason being I am always leary on anyone who places full reg on any of their puppies as when you invest the $$ for a litter, health testing and all the science behind the breeding, you want to make sure you are protecting your lines. If one of your pups with your pedigree or even the ped of the stud owners gets into the wrong hands, it can spell disaster for your lines that you have worked so hard on. So the breeder IMO should not be *asking* if you want full or limited but more likely be telling owners what they are getting based on the puppy they are selecting.

I totally understand its a tough thing to do - ask question but kicking the tires are free. Esp if you are dropping 1500.00 - I know a handful of breeder who are ligit as can be who's puppies are more near the 1k mark, and have tough times finding good homes for their dogs!!! So you are the one who has to feel comfortable with who you are getting your pup from, and if something aint sitting right - then def dont ignor it:)

Good LUck!

Also info dog has the sire as listed a birthday date of 01-10-00. I would also ask if the breeding was a natural one or if they used frozen semen. Just seeing the age, you want to make sure that you are getting a correct pedigree as well:)

One of the things I have an issue is simply that she "asked" if you want a full registration or not..Like Heather said, most breeders sell either pet or show pups, a pet pup it should be understood will be done on a limited registration with a spay/neuter contract, the fact that she asked, kinda makes me wonder..$1500 is on the high end for a pup, especially as a pet depending on the lineage, may or may not be worth that price...

The sire is not registered with OFFA. Only one of the Tirwins dogs was in the data base -

http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1151772

So they may have done the testing, and not sent it in, but Victor is not registed with OFFA. So I would really want to know if the papers are ligit and testing has been done.

The damn of the litter was - http://www.offa.org/display.html?appnum=1353623 but if you look at her mother, she was bred before two, and echo'd before two. I would check to see if they ever echo'd her again because most of the time any heart issues show up after the two years of age.

I have a dog from the same litter - and we are having problems w/pneumonia. Did you ever get a dog from Lakeside or did you move on? I'd like any feedback out there. The dog's temperament is beautiful (as is his appearance) but he is on a second round of antibiotics for respiratory problems from suspect bacterial pneumonia.
