We had a busy morning Saturday and Barker was sleeping ever so angelic that afternoon. She was quite tuckered out, and we didn't want to disturb her. It was after all a quick drive down the road for ice cream and back.  So, we decided to leave her on her bed vs. putting her in her crate. *mistake #1*

I had no idea what could happen in such a short amount of time.  Oh boy!

Earlier that morning it was so warm, I opened the bathroom window to allow a nice breeze run through the house.  It was really refreshing opening the window. I didn't think twice about closing it. *mistake #2*  Between the time we left and the time we returned Barker had somehow managed to jump up on the bathroom counter, knock over my plant, and turn on the water faucet full blast. Yes, full blast (thankfully on cold). In doing so the soil from my plant clogged the sink, and the special hole at the top to prevent spillage.  The water poured over top, and ran not only under the sink, but down the vent as well into the basement.  So, not only did our bathroom get flooded, but our boy's room downstairs, along with their closet and bathroom did as well.  While ontop of the counter she decided to claw the screen open and jump through.    So, when we arrived home, you can imagine our horror when walking through the front door.  We immediately thought an intruder, but then we realized what had happened once Barker began barking at the window while we were trying to clean up the mess.

My husband was soooo not happy, but I told him it wasn't necessarily her fault it was mine for not putting her in her crate like I should have.

We are pretty fortunate.  We soaked up the reminder of water, place a dehumidifier downstairs, and cleaned our carpets.  Besides a bit of water staining in the boy's closet all is well.

But, the best thing of all is Barker came out of it unscathed, I thought my husband would surely send her away, but he didn't.  I guess he is softening up in his old age. lol!

What an adventure, thank goodness there wasn't any serious damage to house and Barker.  Everytime I think about leaving Kiah out of the crate, I remember what happened when I went to my sisters to eat.  Nothing like what you had but I had some things torn up.

Oh boy! Thanks for sharing your story. I have been contemplating leaving her out on short trips to find out what she will do. I think I may wait til she is a wee bit older.

Thank God she is ok and the damage was cleanable and that she is still gonna stick around the household

Whoa she's had quite the adventure in a short time. It doesn't take long for them to get themselves in trouble...I've learned that a few times myself!

Hmmmm I was contemplating leaving Damine & Jasmine (6 months) out of their crate on Friday for the first time (confined to a room instead of their crate) but now I'm thinking twice about it...

Gave Kiah kongs at first and she loved them but got lazy or forgot to freeze them overnight so I started with the kibble and that worked for us.  She does still get a kong every once in awhile to change things up.

Sounds like you  had an interesting afternoon.  Hope you guys did have any permanent damage!  Both of ours have been left out of there crates one time by accident.  I say by accident because we shut the door, but didn't lock the crate.  I guess we were in a hurry.  All Charlie did was lay on the bed, he didn't get into anything.  The only thing Sadie did was chew on a sock and eat about 8" of athletic tape.  We got lucky!
