I get to hear all about peoples dogs pretty much every day at work (for those of you who don't know I'm an assistant manager for Pets At Home the pet superstore!) and today a couple came in with two West Highland White Terriers which they had purchased off a breeder. Both dogs were ex show dogs, but it turns out that the dogs don't know how to walk down the street on a lead as they just had a free run in a paddock with the breeder, they are frightened of people on bikes and various other things when they are out on a walk and they don't even know how to play with toys. Now I would think that this description of these two dogs makes them sound like unsocialised rescue dogs that have perhaps lived a sheltered life, but no, they were from a breeder. Is this what some dog breeders are like? Showing their dogs but failing to provide them with a normal, happy dogs life? And failing to properly socialise them? I just hope that this breeder is a one off. Other breeders do normally provide their dogs with an enjoyable, happy life don't they?

Heather I know all breeders don't do their dogs that way.. Case in point the breeder we are getting Angel from..All her dogs are very well socialized..We played with most of them while we were there...They know the basic commands and how to interect with other people and yes most of her boxers are show dogs.....

I think that particular breeder is an exception, I hope....Those poor dogs,, they don't have a clue of the fun they are missing, huh?
