thats why we got the insurance plan for Patch. We pay $20 a month and all that is covered was his neutering.
I have insurance, but I cancelled her "well care" and upped the emergency care since I figured she'd only go to the vet once a year from now on.  Oh how I wish I kept it now!

Happy to hear that Lola got a clean bill of health at the vet. I think I would need to be hospitalized after fainting when I got that bill!  8O  I don't know...sounds like a bunch to me. I would have done without the Lyme and Bortadella for sure, but that's because I'm not in a big tick area and I don't board the dog. The K9 Advantix you could probably get a lot cheaper ordering from somewhere or even at Petco. I'm not sure what the 4Dx Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlychia x 2 $80.00 is either!

Re: Lola's 1 year vet visit. i This bill is insane!

why did she need all that done... i havent taken dungy for a 1 year yet... obviously lol... but i have taken my other dogs for my parents and the most it cost to get everything was less than 200... that was their annual too.

Um my parents would have killed me lol and make me find a new vet too.  I am lucky though cuz my vet is cheaper than theirs now and they are jealous lol.  I get a discount for being a college student.

also... my vet always tries to get me to get extra stuff... like they "made" me buy ear cleaner (which is fine cuz i would have needed it anyways) but they also made me buy flea stuff and heartworm stuff.  The heartworm is cheap there so thats not a problem, but i always tell them i have flea stuff so i can get it somewhere else.

BUT... my dogs at home have NEVER EVER had flea stuff... i kinda dont wanna give dungy it cuz i dont see why he would need it

Wow, I have never given the lyme vaccine... you live in a different state though :/
Lets see DA2PP-Booster =Distemper/Parvo/Adenovirus-2/Parainfluenza

Taken from a website:
Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichia/Anaplasmosis "4Dx" Testing: We recommend performing this simple blood test on dogs once per year to screen for potentially fatal heartworm disease and for three tick-borne diseases.  Thus, not only can we now identify heartworms before they have a chance to clog heart chambers and vessels, we can now routinely test for all three diseases that ticks transfer to dogs here in the Northeastern United States.  No medication or vaccine is 100% protective, so if a pathogen should "slip through" it's early identification will maximize the likelihood of a safe treatment.

IMO your vet sounds pushy and hoping you will just believe whatever he says.  You can certainly buy the heartworm and flea meds from Drs. Foster and Smith and get the correct item! If nothing else most vets will price match to keep a sale.

So... you may want to go back and ask for a price match- it couldn't hurt.  and I personally wouldn't get any more vaccines except for rabies as required by law.
Your vet will really push you to get them because if you look at the difference in the bill- they only make $60 for the exam ;)
At least you know now what to look for next year :)

That's great about your discount!  Probably cost less for me to jump on a plane and tak Lola to your vet
um it prolly is lol... the rabies seems like a good price and the bordatella doesnt seem too bad... dungy's fecals are only $14... they must do something special w/ yours lol.

I found the K9 advantex on Dr foster and smith for like 40... u should see if u can take that stuff back lol

OUCH!  sounds like my first vet's prices.  he pretty well gouged himself out of business and his parking lot is always empty.

my new vet doesn't charge OV for shots.  His parking lot is always packed.

vetties recent pancreatitis was only $68, including ov, antibiotic shot and a 1 wk rx for antibiotics.

the first time i met him i knew i'd like him... he said, 'we try not scare money out of ppl'

I would have flipped if my bill was that much!  On the flea and heartworm stuff I would def. buy somewhere else.  Our last vet always tried to get us to get it there but they charge so much more!  I'm glad Lola got a clean bill of health though.

Heartworm/Lymes/Ehrichia/anaplasam=20.00
Heartgaurd plus 6 pk =42.00

Granted I did not  get a rabies because she isnt due for it yet but your bill seems pretty high, but then again I live in Indiana
