hmmm Maverick is 7 mo and has never tried to hump me but once he tried to hump my bf's arm when he was about 4 or 5 mo...it was only once and then never again..glad it was only the once.
Well for us, Rocky was a humper his whole life.  We got him at 5 months and lost him at 22 months.  He only did it to his bed and my son.
Henry has only tried to hump a few times, just randomly and he is almost 17 months.
Guess it depends on the dog.

Well

My 3 year old Staffie has been fixed since he was a baby he was a shelter rescue and was fixed ASAP by them and he humps my other males at lwast once a week.

My 2 1/2 Boxer doesnt really do it as often and never did till my staffie started doing it to him.

And finaly my youngest male 1 1/2 years likes to hump all of them. He is the reason I cant bring young peggy out to play and walk out of the room.

THere is what mine do Brutus didnt start till about 3 months ago making him around 15 months
Duke has never done it.  But our female does try to do it to him sometimes.
My lab is a perv, and all he does is "dance" with any dog that comes in the house, and with Tanzy all the time. He's 4 and he's been fixed since he was around 1.

Tanz has picked up on it, but she only does it to my friends Rottie (who is 105lbs at 9months!) it's pretty funny to see her trying to do that to him, considering he is more than 3x her size. Ugh!
I agree with Sharon. I was always taught/told it was a dominance issue. Odin has never tried to hump any of us or anything. I grew up with dogs and always had girls. The girls I had Pepper and Nikki were humpers. Nikki going on 13 yrs old still humps stuffed animals when playing with them. She's definitely an ALPHA female. I'm not sure that there is an actual age when it starts maybe just when they decide they want to be dominant over the object or are maybe insecure but that usually leads to 'marking'...... from what I've read anyway. Good luck.
