:( Our Boxer pup was in our fenced in yard and the neighbors dog was next door in his fenced yard.  Their dog barks and runs back and forth along the fence line like something possessed!  He stopped and stuck his nose through our fence to sniff at Bowser.  Next thing I know, Bowser is yelping and whining and I could tell he was in pain. That dog grabbed him by his lip and wouldn't let go!  Of course, to make matters worse, poor Bowser was pulling and his lip was being stretched even worse.  Fortunately, my husband was outside and he ran over and had to smack the dog on it's butt with the handle of our rake to make him let go.  Bowser was ok since my husband was able to get to him so quickly.  We did not say anything to the neighbor.  The next day, he stuck his nose through our fence again, and my poor Lab got it this time.  Alas, since I am currently in a wheelchair due to an auto accident, I could not get down the deck steps to get to him, all I could do was yell and scream.  Still - the dog would not let go!!  Finally, the owner came from around the front of his house and pulled his dog off.  He picked his dog up and started back to his house!  I yelled over "Excuse me - Your dog just bit my dog!"  He kept on walking.  I yelled it two more times at the top of my lungs, with no response!!!! He opened his door and in he went!!!!  We do not know these neighbors.  Has anyone had this happen before?? Is there any place I can contact that would deal with this kind of thing?  I mean, technically, their dog was on their property and ours was on our property.  My Lab's lip is all swollen, but no longer bleeding, but will not let me near it.  I should take him to vet in A.M.  I think they should be liable for the vet bill. Can anyone help me with this? :(  :bshelp: :(  :((

File a complaint with your local authoriies and document the incidents. IMO if you keep things documented the day the dog gets out and does any kind of damage you have a history of complaints on the dog, and then its not an he said she said item.

Take pics of the lips, and file a complaint.   Thats what I would do.   Hope you dogs feel better and you get the issue resolved.

To me you have to do whatever action you feel need be to make it stop.  I protect my dogs as if they were skin kids.  Something / someone messes with them, they mess with me.  If the neighbor is ignorant enought to ignore you - what are you going to do?  Let it keep happening until next time its more than a lip?

Is there a way you can patch the hole where he is coming thru?  Assuming its a wooden fence?

Ugh, what an ignorant neighbor! Poor Bowser and your lab, hope his lip is okay.  My dad does animal control where I live and if that had happened here, even tho the dog was on his own property and you filed a written complaint, the owner of the other dog can be liable for all vet bills. But I know every state is different. Good luck and def do what Heather suggested.

I am suffering as much as he is because I cannot help him.  He seems to want to be alone.  I can't even see how much damage because he won't let me.  I will take my camera to the vet in the A.M.  There is no hole in the fence, he just stuck his muzzle through the slats of the wooden fence, and when my dogs sniffed at him he grabbed them!  I think we will have to put screening all along the fence line so he can't poke his nose through.  Frankly, I think he should pay to screen the fence since his dog is the vicious one! Anyway, I'll let you know how it goes.  Thanks for your help!

That side of the fence between our two properties is his because he put up his fence first.  We did not put a fence along that side because it would have been unnecessary and there would have been two few fences within a few inches of each other.  Does that make any difference?  :?:

idk... i feel like u would have a better case if it was your fence in the first place, but his dog put his nose through.

I feel like he can say he doesnt want u to put stuff on the fence cuz it isnt yours

Well, if I just put a screen from one end to the other on my side, I wouldn't think it would be affecting his fence any.  But I do see your point, because with someone this ignorant, u never know what  they are capable of saying or doing! :bsty:

Its always better to be safe than sorry in cases like this. As recommend by the others I would highly document this with pictures and written description of what happened and when, as well the neighbors reactions (or lack there of) and file a complaint. That way if anything becomes of it you have the proof to support it.
The way I look at it is just imagine if the fence wasn't there what might of happened.
Hope your babies are okay.
Let us know what happens!

Ugh, I detest neighbors that refuse to take responsibility for their animals..I am very sorry this happened to you....Definitely document everything, take pics, get copies of the vet report, was there any witnesses to this? If you ever have to go to court, they would be a great help as well....Hoping your baby gets better real quick
