My sweet Vinny

My Vinny left us all early. Had difficulty peeing, had an ultrasound and found out that he had prostate cancer and had it for some time. It’s wild how they can be so sick and not show it. I miss him terrible! He was only seven. He was and will always be the love of my life.

Awe, I am so sorry.... Words cannot even begin to help with how difficult losing our "soul" pups can be. I lost my boxer boy "Diesel" just a little over 4 years ago to pancreatic cancer that had infected 90% of it and spread to his liver. Like you, he never showed that he was even sick! He had lost a little weight but that was easy to explain as he had always had intermittent bouts with an upset tummy. (at least that is what we thought). One night we came home from pizza and he hadn't moved off his bed, we took him to the ER and they kept him overnight with IV fluids etc. The next morning we got the terrible news from the ultrasound that there was nothing we could do. They offered to put him down there but we said "no way" and took him home for the in-home service that afternoon..... (he almost made 7)
I guess I always took solace in the fact that he left us without having to make any "tough" medical decisions and that he didn't spend a lot of time suffering. Sounds like Vinny left you much the same way. It's so hard and it effects me deeply to this day.
I found a lot of support here and in the reddit sub "pet loss" and I still go there to this day for self therapy and to try and help others with their terrible "pet loss" journey.
Hang in there and feel free to reach out, and again my condolences.
Rick

(I hope Diesel and Vinny found each other and they are doing fun "boxer" stuff)

Thank you so much for the kind words. i’m so watching the clock and saying I have to go home to Vinny even though he’s not there. I think it was more difficult this time because I’m alone I have no distractions where with my other dogs I was married and I had children and I was working and very busy. Although I’m still working it’s not the same.

Well Welcome Aboard (anyway) and I wish it was under better circumstances. Many of us, "land here following a trail of tears as it were." I lost my Struddell in 2013 to DM (Degenerative myelopathy), it started in year 7 or 8? And took her down by year 9 and she just barely made it to age ten, when it was time to say Good Bye Baby Girl.

That was ten years ago and I still miss her but Dog's are not Truttles. And they do drop by the way side on our long journey through life. And I know it's hard to belive now but the pain will lessen with time.

The pain you feel now, will be replaced, with the Good Times you enjoyed with him.It just takes some time to adjust. Sorry for your loss. :(
I am so very sorry you lost your Vinny, I know all too well how hard it is. I too always have a timer going in my head how long I stay away from home doing errands making sure feeding on time and after losing my dogs still hearing them walking around the house at night. It just takes time, I two of my dogs practically at once from DCM brought on by grain free dog food one was 7 the other had just turned 3 that loss nearly destroyed me. Our bonds with our dogs are “furever” Vinny is always going to be with you as long as you hold him in your heart
So sorry for your loss of Vinny. It is always a difficult time for us. We lost our "Kai" at age 5 1/2 due to a brain tumor. He too was a Heart dog and left a huge paw print on our heart.
