Hello; I am new to the board, but I already like it better than any of the others I have browsed. First I would just like to take a second and say that my baby, Chesney Tatem, my first boxer is missing. She is fawn/red, is 5 years old, weighs about 50 lbs & has a white chest, black mask, docked tail & cropped ears. She went missing from my backyard, and has seemed to have disappeared. I am not certain, but it seems as if she may have been stolen. She has been gone since 12/28/07 and we have searched non-stop. I just cannot give up, but at the same time I feel like it is a lost cause. We are devastated. She could be anywhere by now, so if any of you could just keep her in mind, I could use all the extra eyes I can get. So sorry; I know that was more than a minute...
To make a long story short, in our search for Chesney, we have inherited our newest family member, sort of a rescue. We had Allie only 2 weeks before we realized we think she may be prego. Week 3 rolls around to the day... and surprise! we have babies. After all is said and done, we only have 2 pups... a bouncing baby boy, and girl.
My first question is: Can you tell at all by looking at newborn pups what they are? As in, I have no clue what breed the father is, but I am assuming under the circumstances that the pups are most likely a mixed breed. I am just VERY curious as to what...
Next, I have no experience with newborn pups. They are 5 days old right now. I have taken them to the vet, along with mom, and their tails have been docked and dewclaws removed. But as for the everyday care of newborn pups and what to expect and how to handle it all, I need all the info I can get. (We have them in a box with mom, blankets, and a heating pad.) If anyone can give me some input, or even guide me to some decent websites I would greatly appreciate it.
I am not sure if I even posted this in the correct forum; I apologize if not. Thanks and I look
forward to talking with you all!

I'm afraid I won't be able to get rid of either of them! I am really not sure at this point what I am going to do. My soon-to-be 3-year old little girl will probably have something to say about it I am sure.
Every time we get a call that someone thinks they have our dog, my fiance ends up bringing it home regardless, because he says that they are just going to take it to the shelter and they will kill it! One of them we actually just had a picture sent to us via email and she was beautiful. She was a couple of hours away, but he was certain that someone would want her & take good care of her so we didn't have to go get her!
Two we only had for a day or so, and were able to reunite with their owners. (Thank goodness or we would have a heck of kennel going on here!) But as long as the calls are still coming... maybe there's still hope.
It would be awesome if the pups were pure boxer. My luck they will be a mix with a big long collie nose or something  We would still love 'em though!

Very sorry to hear about your boxer going missing and there should always be a flicker of hope....I had a client come in with her dog just a month ago and the dog had been missing for almost a year.  She woke up one morning and there it was on the front porch!  Crazy things happen!!!!

On the mother and babies......with only having two there should not be anything you need to do.  Sometimes in a large litter the mom needs a little help, but she should be able to handle two with out any problems.....

They are cute and at this age there would be no way to tell what they are.....it is a wait and see thing :)

Well, I'm terribly sorry to hear about, Chesney - but please don't give up. Where there's a will, there's a way. I hope she will find her way back to you. This is why I tell so many ppl to microchip their dogs. For such a small fee, you have something that could save your pup's life. When I worked @ the SPCA, we had quite a few dogs that had been missing for months & b/c they had a microchip we were able to reunite them w/their very happy owners.

As for the pups - they too look very 'Boxerish' to me. But again - they're still too young to tell. You never know until they begin growing a little bit. I'd say take weekly pics - that's the best way to see any changes that may occur (since it's hard to notice when you see them on a daily basis).

Either way -- best of luck to you! You're wonderful for taking all these animals in... in hopes of finding them homes. If I were you'd I'd be keeping the puppies.. but that's me. I get attached to darn quickly! *hehe*

I am so sorry to hear about Chesney.  I know that has to be so very hard.  Just don't give up!

The babies are cute...   and like people have already mentioned, they do look very boxerish.  If they aren't pure boxer, lets just hope that the mommy has stronger genes than the daddy!   :)

What a wonderful person you are to take in all these furkids, Boxer or not, they are cuties. Time will tell on that..Like Sharon said, with such a small litter, you shouldn't have any problems. I would take them in again at about 6 or 7 weeks for a checkup tho....Hoping that your Chesney finds her way home to you, it has happened, so don't give up

Welcome to the forum!! I'm so sad to hear about your baby...i know it would break my heart to lose one of mine.  I'm sure you have but in case you havent...have you checked out PETFINDER.COM?  it is a great site. YOu can look up dogs that are at shelters and rescues all over the country and you can search by breed and age....you never know...she may be there somewhere. Also you can look at the classifieds of people who have found dogs. You can post a classified of your lost dog...

Overall its a great site and I think if you haven't checked it out it may be a decent area to look.

I hope all works out.  You have beautiful babies there.

Sorry to hear about Chesney.  From your story, more than likely, I would think that somebody stole her.  Maybe for breeding, and from what I've read online, people steal pets now and try to sell them on craigslist and other sites.  Congrats on the pups, I've never seen boxer in life that young, but they appear to have alot of boxer characteristics.  Here in 3 or 4 months it'll be alot easier to decide if it's a mix breed.  But there cute pups!

I just have to say thank you all so much for the hopes & prayers for Chesney. It is just so hard because she was my baby before my baby! (My little girl) She was with me through my pregnancy and everything. I feel in my heart that she was stolen because from experience, if you find a dog and take it in your home, you notice those flyers, classified ads, internet postings, K9Alert.com, mass emails, etc. I swear you can google Chesney! I have her posted everywhere! She was spayed though. It is so frustrating!    (btw; I named her after my love Kenny Chesney... she has his bottom lip!) Anyway, your support is very much appreciated.

You know, I have joined other boxer forums in the past (they had absolutely no personality!), and this is by far the best one. You all are great and have beautiful dogs. I look forward to talking with all of you!!
