Barkley has peed in his crate a few times.  I think it's usually at night.  I don't give him any water a few hours before bed time and we let him out once in the middle of the night.  All I can think of is that I'm not getting to him quickly enough when he starts crying.  How many hours before bed should I take away his water?  Will he eventually stop when he can hold it longer?

I would take up the water about 3 hrs before bed and see how that works..He will definitely stop that as he gets older and gets better control, but some, like Ann said, will take advantage of that large crate and use part as their bathrom and part as their bed. You may have to condense the crate so there is no extra room

Unfortunately some dogs will still potty in the crate- even if it is an appropriate size.  Delilah had separation anxiety and would poop and pee in the crate, even if i was only gone for an hour or two.  If it doesn't seem like he has SA, you may just try taking water away earlier. How old is he?

I take Fiona's water up about 3 hours before bed time....holding it comes with age as the bladder muscles increase and i dont know how old he is...like everyone else said make sure he does not have to much room and sometimes if there is a blanket or something in there it is helpful to take it out that way if they pee in it......it will get on them and they generally do not like that.
