My friend has a dog that is almost a year and unaltered. She has never had a problem but today he was licking himself and she said that it hasnt gone back inside for about an hour. Is this normal? I told her I didnt think it was soon enough to panick but how long is this normal? Ive never had this problem with any of my pets before. Any advice would be welcome im sure as she is extremely uncomfortable and worried.

Yeah you have to get it back in quickly caus otherwise it swells. . .that happened to MAc and he ended up at the vet, had his willie put on ice to reduce the swelling and then gel to get back in. . .Boys.. .but i do believe it can be serious if left

Didn't this happen during an episode of the Real World? LOL.

I think they put salt on it, might want to google it first.

I had a friend whose pups had this issue (I posted on it awhile back) it was umm hanging out for about a day or 2 and then it just righted itself...it did it again about 2 months later but within a day was right. The vet said it could be bc there was a female in heat in the area and he was umm for lack of terms a little excited about it???

:ROTFLMAO: it's funny but then again it's not. I couldn't imagine pouring SALT on a erected lip stick! You'd think that would hurt. I HOPE AND [-O< this never happens to Tucker, I would have to be the one to massage his lip stick back into his turtle shell

You used my word! Its very fitting though isn't it?!

That sounds really bad, poor guy. I wouldn't assume it isn't painful because that happens when they are "excited", but the salt thing? No way!

According to the Viagra commercial if in the rare event of an erection lasting more than 4 hours, seek immediate medical help to avoid long-term injury.

I hope everything is back to normal.

Arbie's had this off and on the last week - he has a UTI - so I would get that checked out. He is also intact. It doesn't stop them having erections etc apparently. I asked my vet about some lumpiness around Arbie once and she said it may be the male sexual glands even when neutered - and sure enough when she checked him over it was that.

The same thing happened recently to Rocky but his was partially sticking out. After about a week, we took him to the vet. The vet wasn't sure why this was happening since he is neutered. She said this is more common in intact males. He got a physical exam and everything looked good. She prescribed some antiobiotics because she did notice some swelling and a red dot on the tip of his pecker. She helped it back into the sleeve with some lube  . It was weird 8O. She gave us some lube to go and mentioned if we noticed it popping back out, to lube it back in.
