We have a 5 year old Boxer and she has been diagnosed with IBD. Has anyone else been threw this, we brought her home from the hospital on Tuesday and have been tube feeding her with a special diet and giving her medication and it still appears she is losing weight and nothing is helping. She was 58 lbs and now she is down to 45 lbs. we are just so scared and don’t know what to do.

Are there any internal medicine Vet specialist in your area? It would probably be worth it if you could locate one to help with your girls situation.

I hope she gets on the road to recovery I went thru a similar thing with my female she had giardia and coccidia when I got her I was able to get rid of that but she got a bad overgrowth of bacteria in her gut she was losing weight and had bloody diarrhea it was really terrible too I found an article on this website about using the drug Baytril on her and I brought it to my Vet he said it was worth a try we were getting ready to go on a very expensive food trial so we tried the Baytril and within 3 days her symptoms improved and after two bottles of Baytril she was all better and we have not had a problem since. It was very hard watching her go thru that. I hope you find a solution for your girl.

Polka dot, our female boxer is 4. She is going through the same symptoms as yours. She was 50 lbs and now 41. IBS I believe also known as boxer colitis was considered and she was placed on steroids. Those created an appetite and thirst, but she continued to get worse so they ruled that out and took her off the medication. She had a urine test for a fungal infection that after 5 days came back negative. There are other test that can be done, but we feel like we are running out of time so we are going to a specialist in internal medicine. I am not sure how much longer Bella can be sick. I understand your pain and powerlessness caring for your boxer. Please keep me posted on her progress and I will do the same. Bella has an IV in so we can take her in for fluids and medication easily. I hope you see progress soon.

We ended up taking her to a hospital and the found stomach ulcers, we are tube feeding her and yesterday was the first day she ate solid food on her own, this morning we tube feeder her and she seems okay but we can tell she is still not quite herself. I would really recommend taking her to a specialist and having a scope of her stomach, it is sad seeing a tube out of her but at least we know what’s going on and it is going to be a long road to recovery. It’s only been 5 days since she has been home but we do see a slight improvement.we live in Steamboat Springs Colorado and the closest place was in Fort Collins, it was well worth the trip.
