Hello.  Our 10 month old boxer (Gino) had his procedure done this past Friday.  Since that time we have been doing everything we can to keep him calm and leave his incision alone.  He has a E neck collar that he has on most of the time to help him from licking his wound.  I took him to the vet today to look him over.  They said his wound has opened up all the down to the stitches and if it gets any worse he will have to go under again for another procedure.  Does anyone have any advice?  We live 3 flights up in our apartment so he has some stairs to climb.  We try to carry as much as possible.  He also just has that boxer in him so he gets really excited all the time even on sedatives.  Any stories or advice is appreciated.

The main thing is to keep him from licking, from doing alot of running or jumping.  Unfortunantly that does include the stairs so I would continue to carry him.....In addition to that....you can do "all the right things" and sometimes dogs will have a slight reaction to the suture material and it will come open anyway.....They would need to sedate remove the old stitches and re-stitch him.  It is not that complicated of a procedure and they could use a different type of suture material....make sure he is getting his antibiotics and just try to keep him from being real active for a few days to let that heal.....
