My girls dream a lot while they sleep. The paws move like they are running or playing. I will hear whining or an occassional yip or bark. I've even seen them suckling while they sleep.

I usually just let them dream away.

The hubby does not! He will disturb them enough to rouse them from their dreams.

I don't like it when he does. I know I wouldnt want to be woken up from a good dream.

His reasoning in doing so i just dont understand. He says its not good for them mentally and he was always told in the past to try to stop his dogs from dreaming.

What are your thoughts on waking a happily dreaming dog?

Do you let them dream? Do you disturb them or wake them?

Curious minds want to know.

My female dreams all the time. While awake she never barks but while sleeping she is a great barker. My young male, I haven't noticed dreaming but he is still a baby.

this could be an old wives tale, however, my mom used to always tell me when I was younger to NEVER wake the pups while they were dreaming because they could have a heart attack. She may have told me that to just make sure I didn't bother them, but still to this day I will not disturb Zeus or Ciara when dreaming.

How the heck would you feel if you were in the middle of your dream, and BAM! POW! someone wakes you up! I would be terrified!

not good for them mentally? they are just dreaming, we dream.

OMG my hubby does the same thing and it drives me crazy! He says he does it because he doesn't like seeing Duke all agitated. Oh bloody hell! Just let them sleep and dream! If dreaming is good for us, why wouldn't it be for them?

Dogs go through similar sleep stages as humans. They dream during REM sleep. I could only imagine it makes your dog more tired that they are not allowed to finish the full cycle of sleep! Next time it looks like your husband is in REM sleep, wake him up and tell him that its not good for him mentally :) , Just kidding!

There are only two situations I will wake my pups when they are dreaming:

1. If Gabby is shaking the bed like crazy from running in her sleep. Lol
2. If they sound like its a bad dream - whining/crying agitated sound.

If I do wake them, I do it very gently so they never jump, look surprised or anything. They just look at me and go right back to sleep. :)

Wth? Next time your husband is sleeping wake him up at like 3 or 4 am and he will say "why what's up why are you bothering me?" You tell him "because it's not good for you mentally to peacefully dream away!!!!" Lmbo! He's mean. So is Leo when we are in bed trying to sleep... when Rosco is asleep and making a lot of noise Leo tells him to be quiet, poor baby Rosco. I never wake him up. I like to stare at him and when he does wake up he's like oh hey! You scared me but it's ok I love you!

I cant wake him at 3am... He works night shift and is already awake. But when I did wake him last night I teased him by telling him he was dreaming and it wasnt good for him... Lol

Like i said before he rouses... Either by giving them a pet or ear rub. They never wake completely, so he's not mean.

I only wake mine if its about to wake the kids lol .. or if it sounds really bad as said earlier.. One time Breezy scared the crap out of me, I was doing laundry and heard her start to yelp and moan then bark, it was horrible. I was down stairs so it also sounded like pounding on the floor above me, I came flying up the stairs (of course home alone) to find her sleeping... I startled her when I came charging into the room lol and she stopped, looked up at me with that sleepy face and wagged her bottom!!! lmao. Not sure what that one was about but it broke my heart!! ... I say let them sleep if and when you can :)
